You are seeing everything in black and white.

You are implying that if CQ was telling the truth, then Gucci should have been cut for Kaveh because of the age factor as well. Way to black and white.

The reasons why Hosseini is dropped are not the criteria used for keeping Gucci vs Kaveh. First of all Gucci is not 36. So already what you are saying is not logically sound.

This is not Football Manager. The goal is to create the most balanced team possible for your World Cup. A CB duo of Montazeri-PAG, or Montazeri - M.Hosseini or M.Hosseini - PAG seems perfectly balanced and capable to me.

We all love Jalal and of course it hurts to be cut at the final moments... but if we build teams based on players we love, then lets bring back Nekou as well.

And this is all assuming Jalal is not called back from the standby list, which I think is perfectly possible before the world cup.

      .
Agha, I acknowledge your post and your logic with the Gucci-Kaveh argument but I wanted to disagree with this point. Many of us feel that it isn't a case of loving Jalal but that he is still the best CB for TM, whereas Nekounam was getting slower and losing his game-reading abilities and we needed to give the next generation a chance because there were better options towards the very end of his playing career. I still feel that Jalal is better and more consistent than the next generation even at 36.

Assuming he doesn't make the cut from the standby list, I could be completely wrong and I really hope I am.

I disagree. He's way too slow for the pace of Spain and Morocco's offense. They play quick passes and have explosive offensive players. I can imagine him conceding a penalty from someone like Isco or Nordin Amrabat running into the box. Not to say that Cheshmi is much better but I would be comfortable with PAG and Majid Hosseini.

Are the standby players traveling with main team for prep games?

Again look at Jalal, from what i can tell he has posted no BS on social media regarding his exclusion.

Look at this wonderful man who has given his all for TM in the past few years.

Iran is truly a dark horse in this tournament. One of the best managers in the world, with the talent pool of a football crazy x-factor nation. I've said this before but 2018 is our year, idc who is in our group.

you guys think he got injured? i just watch highlights of the game and there seems to be a collision at the end of the game with hosseini and an uzbek player in the penalty area. afterwards CQ was giving the ref an earful. it did not watch the game, only highlights. but it could be the reason he is on stand by because the injury could only be a minor one and CQ doesn't want to announce it so he says he's getting old? lol

I think that CQ has learnt from his past mistakes actually. Football is still a sport and the survival of the fittest, not the ones with most experience.
if you can run like a horse for 120 min, with hard teamwork you can recover from mistake, but if a player is slow, once he make a mistake is dangerous. for CQ is better to have young player who will run like a horse than a seyed jalal who has experience but tend to make mistake

Legend of Asia but old and slow on the international side. Put your feelings aside its cq who has to make the tough decisions
hoseni does make mistakes, and getting to world cup for defenders is a combination of speed, agility, fitness, and experience. beside experience seyed jalal has none. younger players are more hungry, will be more driven and will try 110% for them self and the coach

what you mean over the hill?i agree gucci is not what he used to be, but our forward is a different issue over all, karim has lost CQ trust , hence he is moved to midfield, kaveh have been tested in TM, and it seems he has not deliever for TM, azmoun is the main guy, and gucci is selected because he can hold the ball well and follow the tactics. while we need experience in attack, defense we can have younger, cause we have more options, and CQ trust them more, unlike forwards who he only trust 2 forwards.

i dont think so, cause if he was injured, CQ would have told the media like ali karimi case where he told the media he miss the world cup due to injury.

As I said in another thread:

Hosseini has been a rock for Perspolis in the domestic and Asian leagues, that's very true. But we're not going up against Padideh and Al-Sad in the World Cup. We're facing three high pressure matches in a short span, two of them against attacking lineups comparable to those of Brazil and Argentina, with fitness and conditioning second to none. Now consider that four years ago, by the third match most of our team including Hosseini had run out of gas. What makes you think he would be in better shape against arguably tougher competition now that he's four years older??... If he was out of gas by the Bosnia match as a 32 year old, what makes you think he'll fare better against Portugal as a 36 year old?...

And one more thing in response to some of the childish arguments comparing the inclusion of "over the hill" Gucci to Hosseini. First off, Gucci is 30, Hosseini is 36. Those six years are a lifetime in football. Second, these two are picked for completely different roles which makes Hosseini's age much more relevant. Gucci is basically there as an experienced, opportunist backup forward to come in late when we desperately need a goal. Hosseini's job by contrast, would have been to mark the likes of Ronaldo and Diego Costa for 90 minutes! As much as I respect Jalal for his accomplishments, I don't think that at 36 he would be able to keep up with Ronaldo and company after two back to back games against Morocco and Spain.

I remind you once again: CQ SEES THESE GUYS IN PRACTICE AND WE DON'T. And he's earned enough capital in the last seven years for us to trust his judgment.

Jalal is a great defender but lately he hasn't even been a permanent fixture in his own club.

It's interesting how everyone is shocked about his exclusion, including myself... but if you dig deeper over the last 18 months, the signs were there.
