We've never really cared about numbers or caps and such sentimental stuff in Iranian football, which is a great shame.

Team Melli has great number 9s such as Hashemian, Estili and many more which I can't remember.

It's become more trendy since 2014. I happened to see this list: https://m.sportskeeda.com/slideshow/...ey-in-football

Rudi Voeller wore number 9 in 1990, as did Ronaldo in 2002. They were the main strikers for West Germany and Brazil, respectively.

yes everything is possible, but the fact that Dejagah often and long played with No.21 is the reason he should keep it. more important are the first 11 numbers when it comes to strikers and defence (2,3,4,5) and ezatollahi (6) while other middlefielders wear in general 7,8,10. and strikers wore 9 and 11 in the past. But Ansarifard is okay with 10, like Daei wore it all the time, because Azmoun likes and wear 20 all the time. i can adapt to Ansarifard 10 and Dejagah and Azmoun numbers, but a number 9 is of course a striker number, not a defensive middlefielder. 11 can be also Taremis number, sounds good, but i am also okay if he wants to wear 17 and amiri stays with 11. not too much changes are needed.

And on the 8.Day God created Ali Karimi, and he saw he was good!

What has Ansarifard done lately to make us think he can deliver an effect in the World Cup? I have not followed up with his performances since he left to play in Greece.

17 league goals in 25 games this season, regular scorer in Iran friendlies at centre forward (6 goals and 1 assist in last 7 games at CF).

Please read this page, it explains the effect of numbering system: https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/soc...numbers-matter

Also some players need to improve body language. For example Dejagah shows extreme frustration after missed goal opportunities and that dampens the team's mood.

                    13 - Mr. Unlucky

A player with the mojo to wear the "unlucky 13″ and get away with it. A player that will throw their arrogance back in the face of fate and tell it to take a hike.
I guess the author doesn't realize #13 is not perceived unlucky everywhere in the world. Stupid article.

And the numbered system only works in a regular 4-4-2 setup. If you play 4-5-1 like us, the number system is useless.

^ Actually the number system doesn't really work for 4-4-2 system as it wasn't for the 4-4-2 system. The number system predates the 4-4-2 system. See my post on this issue.

Gerd Muller used to wear #13 for West Germany and win the
                        golden boot.

When I was growing up everyone wanted to wear the number 10. Has that changed now?

Maybe Ebrahimi will suddenly turn into a number 9 tomorrow.
