Morocco is a great team with many players in Europe, Iran has many pressures and international sanctions have harmed our preparations. We are the under dogs

      Dirar and Hakimi trained today.

It seems like bad luck only travels with Team Melli (we have Ali Karimi injured and out of the World Cup; and Dejagah is always in ICU and does football, part time).

guys whatever is gods will, will happen. i'm not gonna go into stress overmode because morocco or any other team have their players available. if we want to win we win against their best line up. thats all. im just gonna enjoy our team playing a great game against all 3 of these teams.

In 2018 a good number of us on this forum knew what Morocco were about - I got shot down for calling Morocco the "dark horse" for 2018 and how they were potentially the strongest team in our group of death

In the end they played the best out of all four teams but finished bottom. They had unlucky calls against Spain and Portugal and against Iran played against the peak version of team melli we ever had (and can have until we have a new regime), and we were fortunate both in the first 15 minutes and at the end.

The entire core of that team is now completely outplaying the same two teams from four years ago.

Not to burst your bubble but many analysts and football pundits were calling Morocco a dark horse in 2018–not a hard call for anyone that follows international football.

I know, and my post history at that period reiterated exactly that, but this status was being disputed on this forum. No one thought Morocco was the big game in the group.

The defensive phalanx shape of this Morocco team is pure drilled European club side.

It's what we saw from Queiroz's Iran in 2018. Same organisation, same possession stats and pitch position ratios

Difference is that Morocco has top players all over the pitch.

^ and speedy players, something we lacked in this WC

As i have been told by Moroccans, the reason why they let Vahid walk he wasn't finding the balance between defense and attack and his team couldn't defend well.
I guess they learn from their mistake.

Excellent points. I think some people might be excessively fixated on lack of sufficient football development in Iran while underestimating other factors that have played a much larger role in our abysmal performance in successive World Cups. In fact, Morocco's success has cearly highlighted the problem areas that have continuously undercut the sport in Iran: financial turmoil, social instability, and shifting attitudes on the part of the population resulting in diminishing player morale and confidence. Let's not forget that Morroco was beaten by Iran four years ago, and four years is not sufficient time to embark on major development. What they've had, though, is overall stability, ample resources and strong support given to the team in their quest to fix their vulnerabilities and take the game to the next level.

Which brings me to the next point: Morocco, a team that had never gotten this far in previous World Cups, has played with ultimate poise and confidence throughout this competition. Unlike us, they did not fear Spain and Portugal and, in both cases, managed to eke out close victories. Clearly the global football landscape has also changed as the gap between traditional "powerhouses" and "minnows" is rapidly getting narrower every day. Yet Iran, a country with abundant raw talent and potential, has not been able to capitalize on this transformation. The culprit, in my view, is not so much lack of football development as nagging social, economic, and psychological woes that have engulfed our country for decades. (It is undeniable that millions of Iranians are suffering immensely as a result of dire economic conditions and football is probably the last thing on their minds. But the sport struggled even during years of relative economic prosperity and that's where psychology manifests itself.)

So, my conclusion is that, while these external factors persist, our football may not reach its zenith and expectations might need to be tempered. And even if the country reaches an uptimum state of growth and stability, the mental part of the equation may continue rearing its ugly head. Four years ago, our team was not beset by problems it recently had to deal with, and yet it struggled against two opponents (both recently defeated by Morroco), facing them with extreme caution and fear. (I still believe that, had Iran played with more verve and assertiveness in the first half against Spain in 2018, it would have made it to the knockout stage. The same could be said about the game against Portugal.)

Marocco team settling the score with its historical foes at wc?

This Marrocco teams wc journey is facinating. First beating neighbouring teams portugal and spain which they have a lot of history with. And now drawing france. They will be pumped to beat them, and i predict an upset win based on the historic factor.

Was Morocco ever a French colony?

The French conquest of Morocco began in 1907 and continued until 1934. By the Treaty of Fez of 1912, France gained a protectorate over Morocco and spent the next two decades taking control of the country. Morocco becomes a French protectorate.

Why was Morocco colonized by France?

By imperializing Morocco, the French were able to protect French Algeria (Imperialism in North Africa: Introduction, Women in World History : MODULE 9). Other general motivations for imperializing that Spain, France, and most European nations felt were that they wanted to maintain a balance of power with each other.

We beat Marrakech well didn't we? I mean it is cool that Morocco have reached so long in WC! Iran would have more problem playing teams like Cameron, Senegal than Morocco or Egypt thought, Morocco have done a great job this WC but it is like Bahrain or UAE beating Iran! Can happen like once out of ten games
