I am still hurt that a player with his talents sold out on us. vatan foroosh is what every calls him on his IG and I agree with that.

Best of luck to him but I wish his parents would've done more to have him represent his blood country. We would've appreciated him more than the Aussies would ever had

I posted this in the other thread, and will do so again. The hate for the kid is a bit too much. Anyone here know what his family circumstances are? The kids name is Daniel, could t be that the kid is a Christian or some other ethnic minority that is being persecuted by the government?

I know plenty of Iranians who could never go back to Iran, because of the issues with IRI. Would you really expect their kids to play for TM under this regime?

Techhnically, he is completely Iranian. Iranian parents. Born in Khorramabad, Iran. Lived the first 7 years of his life in Iran.

It’s just that he chose Australia, as that’s where he learnt football. He was also in the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) for most of his youth career. The AIS is FULLY funded by the Australian taxpayer. In a way, he owes it to Australia for giving him the Opportunities he probably would’ve never been given had he stayed in Iran.

This really puts Ghoddos' choice into perspective. Ghoddos was actually capped by Sweden, born in Sweden, and could have easily avoided all the Nike boycott political bs by choosing Sweden, but he chose Iran.

I remember being one who thought Ghoddos didn't deserve to wear the TM shirt a few years ago when he didn't come out 100% choosing TM, but in retrospect, I see how much he loves Iran to make the sacrifice to wear our national badge. I hope he really kicks some ass in Russia and gains even more respect internationally!

I agree, I don't hate the guy for not choosing Iran, but I don't have any positive feeling towards him. I never liked his tone and word choice in his interviews, he showed he loves Australia way more than Iran, and Iran was only an option if he could go to the world cup. He seems to be very entitled, and I don't like his attitude and personality from what I've seen on Instagram and his interviews. Might just be a generational problem, but even if Saman Ghoddos had chosen Sweden I would've had much more respect for the guy because he seems like a more genuine likeable character.

At the end of the day, I hope he grows up a bit and matures his personality/attitude, and has a successful career.

This Daniel Guy most probably don't even know how to blend in with Australian kids and most probably would receive lots of racism from them! Specially after they caught those 2 drug importer Iranian couple.

I'm sorry but to get picked as a 19 year old for the australian national team that's stacked with legionnaires is no small feat. compare to azmoun, who carlos didn't even invite to the team 4 years ago at the same age. he had a breakout season and if you watch his matches his talent is incredibly obvious. i wish we'd been on top of this sooner and capped him when we had a chance. what a shame.

having said that - these are sensitive choices and we can't hate on him. Don't forget that Dejagah "naz'd" for a long time too and rejected Ghotbi's invite. Saman went through the same thing. It's complicated, and the australians have home court advantage in terms of the pressure etc. A lot of this comes down to his parents/parenting....clearly his parents are one of those iranians who want their kid to assimilate into their new country. Hence the name "Daniel" (not hating on Iranians with non-iranian names btw). my parents would kick me out of the house and cut off my inheritance if i didn't pick tm
