To me, that was the lowest quality WC opener in a VERY long time but it was definitely not a boring one and got the WC to a fabulous high-scoring start.

The Saudis were atrocious... they had no physical presence and showed very desire or plan to actually score... it seemed their only game plan was to pass the ball around.

But even more atrocious were Russia's kits! What the hell was that?! It looked like their grannies sewed that shit up for them the night before the match!

Totally agree. The quotas for the 2022 and 2026 WC's are already set and it doesn't matter how well or crappy AFC teams do in this tournament, nothing's gonna change.

And with the new super-extended format, we're pretty much guaranteed a spot in every WC going forward so whether AFC gets more spots, it makes no difference to us.

Besides being a mediocre team, Iraq have bad luck in qualifiers as well. If this team had a little bit of luck on their side they would be in Russia and Saudi Arabia would’ve stayed home for the sake of Asia. This team has a group of talented players including Bashar Resan and their European based players. They need a better coach and hopefully they’ll make it in 2022.
