And also a time of humiliation for some nations. Nah I would say let's stick to the current format.

or have another qualification stage added to the current system where the lower seeds play each other and the winners of their groups advance to the final stage. For example in the current finals the bottom two teams from all continents would play in say 8 groups of 4 (mixed from all continents and add 16 more teams. a lower tier world cup if you like since it would be inter continental) and 16 of them advance to the finals to join the top seeds. That final tournament will then be a very high quality tour and a joy to watch.

Dude they are diffrent situations where one could have more possession.
If f.e. one team leads 2-0 from minute 40th, than its clear that most teams
give the ball to the opponent and wait for counterattacks. If the loosing
opponent have 60-70% possession that truly means nothing since
their domination were not caused by technical-passing domination.
Another meaningless case is, when one team from beginning plan to park
the bus and wait for counterattacks like iran did against argentina our
many Teams did against Barca.
BUT Possession definitly counts when you have to even match up teams where
both try to win and dominate the game. The Team with more possession has in this
case a higher chance to score.
So when someone give sou stats about possession, you have to adapt it
to the game-history.
