Well in most their friendlies they seemed like a mediocre team at best. Even against us, we were leading by a goal until 75'. However looks like they've turned into a totally different team. Even their Euro 2016 journey was farce of a display.

let's see them play against Uruguay, and then we'll know how strong they are. Saudi Arabia is a joke and even Egypt is an average one-man team, with that one man not being 100% fit. Neither opponent has really tested Russia.

It was a bit misleading partly because their pre-WC friendlies were with the cream of the crop (Brazil, Spain, Argentina).

Also, their roster was almost exclusively made up of players from their domestic league. Not coincidentally Russia's leading scorer right now, Cheryshev, is the one guy playing abroad. After this tournament we'll see a lot more doing that, starting with Golovin.
