Until Spain scored with that pinball goal from Diego Costa, that was the perfect demonstration for President Trump that the US-Mexican border doesn’t have to be made out of bricks or steel. Just contract the Iran football team along with their coach Carlos Queiroz... What an awful awful way to play the game. But that’s football too.

Spain decided to play counter which is why Koke was brought on for Iniesta after the goal and I thought that was a massive error because that’s not the way Spain feels comfortable.

Don't get me wrong. This Iran team can actually play when they want to. Iran are much better at attacking than they pretend they are. Unfortunate not to have gotten a goal.

I hope when your current coach disappears into the sunset that they get someone who likes to play expansive, fast-paced football because they've shown today that they can do that.

You guys are a hundred times better than the Saudis and I don’t credit the qualification standings on how both got here. It’s plainly visible for anyone that watches a lot of football that Iran know how to play and it’s not always the case that you get thumped if you are more positive in your football. Obviously when you’re playing superior sides you have to be clever and very disciplined, not exactly opening up. But the show that you guys gave before the goal was abhorrent - From a neutral prespective.

Secondly the first 50 minutes was a tactical game planned by the coach. He is a defensive minded coach. But to be honest if you don't defend well against teams like spain they will rape you in the first 30 minutes. So yes Our players showed they can play high level football. But don't you worry neighbour, we will be in the top 20 top teams of the world. And we will do much much better in the next World Cup final.

OK guys, it is not hard to understand.

The compact, pragmatic defensive approach pre-goal, is the RIGHT strategy. When only a handful of teams can match Spain's offensive output, this is the right strategy.

After their goal, we should we have a great offensive capability as well. If they were offensive minded from the first minute, they were exhausted by minute 50.

Despite this defensive approach, we still had the best opportunities in the game. That says so much. This is freaking Spain, Iraq or Vietnam.

I made the comparision because i have seen lot of people on here who said that if Iran plays just a little attacking football and get out of their defensive approach they will get thumped like the Saudis.

This is what hihgly disagree with. To defend well against a team like Spain you guys think you need 11 players in your own half with the talent at your disposal.

There is difference between a defensive approach and a repellent approach.
