Honestly Nestor Pitana is the only ref worthy of reffing the final ahead of Faghani. He's officiated really well in this WC.

When you hear him speak in his interviews, you can really get that he has focus and control in all areas of his life.

I was hoping, and I believed Faghani deserved to officiate the final, because statistically he made the least mistakes out of all refs at the World Cup. Besides, every ref has been corrected by the VAR, except for Faghani. That means this man made no mistakes.

But I am still proud that we will have our man officiating the 3rd place match between England and Belgium. Has an AFC ref ever made it this far at the World Cup?


Anyway good luck to him and his team! Make Iran proud one more time at this World Cup!!

i love how some members keep trying to find logical reasons he wasnt given the final. First the "they dont want a dutch ref for belgium match", BS, the Dutch guy Kuipers wasnt selected for either match. Now the "he already reffed a france game", also BS, bc Pitana did as well. I watched Pitana and he didnt have that much control of the match, and that was even before I knew he would be in contention for the final, or who he even was.

Is it really so hard to just admit Faghani got screwed over bc he is iranian?

Alireza and his team did a fantastic job in all the matches that they referred.
Hopefully in the next world cup in Qatar which he will be 44 years old, he will get his chance of calling the final match.
