Alireza Faghani (Referee) - FIFA World Cup 2018

Salaam guys. I know that at this moment all we can think of is just Team Melli and rightfully so. However, I thought we should have a thread covering Faghani and his referee team for this World Cup as well.

It has just been announced they will referee the Germany - Mexico match

Hope they make us proud and get to referee big knockout stage matches as well!

I agree, there should be a separate thread and focus on Alireza Faghani.

I can't believe that he wants to retire after the World Cup. He's not old and he can honestly officiate 1 more World Cup if he wants to.

He really did well, not stopping the game to many times and that made it to one of the most exciting games so far. Thank you Alireza Faghani.

Look his name up on twitter and you will have football experts and pundits telling you "we need more referees like Faghani"!!

What a world class referee. Proud of him

Makes fair decisions, takes no nonsense from anyone, no matter how big in World football.
So many times players tried to influence his decisions, he will have none of it. True Shirmard 🦁

He seemed to be either suffering from a Cold or hay fever, using his handkerchief few times, runny nose it seemed!? Even that didn’t stop him from keeping up with a fast-paced end to end game.

Great game by Faghani. Loved when he pushed the German player away telling him keep your distance.

However the linesmen missed some offside calls. Hope that doesn’t lower his chance to officiate higher up in the tournament.

                      He was flawless!

Pure class, yet not much respect for him in his own country!

He had said in an interview that after the WC, he will re-think about continuing his job in IPL, after so many unfair attacks and criticism toward Iranian refs.

Do you guys think it could have consequences for him, that he pushed away Kroos? Though we have seen him do this before, he's amazing.

On Dutch football boards people are thanking him for being a such a good ref, saying other refs would kill the match with annoying freekicks etc.

Don't think so at all, in fact that increased his chance as it showed he is stamping his authority and takes shiiit from no one. Good on him. I think he also communicates well with the players and keeps telling them to watch it.

He’s lucky Foghani pushed him back and instead didn’t show him a yellow for touching the ball when he was on the ground and then for coming head-to-head with a match official trying to intimidate him and receive a second yellow card and consequently be sent off. Lucky to be on the field!
