Guys, what a game!!!! I can’t say I have ever jumped and yelled in celebration so loud in my entire life dameh bacheha + CQ garm
The first 25 minutes were confusing and frustrating but it really all paid off. From the 25 minute mark onward we got more comfortable and started to play a really solid game. And by solid I mean we didn’t leave many holes for the Moroccans to take advantage of because we did what CQ has taught us to do better than anyone which is to play as a TEAM. Decent passing through out the 2nd half and we did decently enough once we got comfortable.
It incredible that the players who get the most criticism on PFDC were our best players IMO: Rezaeian, Beiro, Ebrahimi, Cheshmi, and Amiri. Hats off to those guys each and every one worked extremely hard and showed tons of confidence.
I think everyone with the exception of Masoud and Azmoun played well. No disrespect to them I still got love for them and support them 100% but since we’re sharing our thoughts here and analysis......sardar almost cost us a goal bc he couldn’t clear a ball with his weak foot, missed a 1v1 he should have berried, and ruined another counter by tripping up on the ball and had a few other costly mistakes.
I’d like to see Taremi and Ghoddos start next game although I think the timing of their subs was perfect....both players pressing and put a lot of pressure on the Moroccan players not giving them much time on the ball.
Enjoy this day and enjoy this win brothers - we let the world know we are here to play today!!! Dameh hamegi garm

"I will never be able to say good bye to Iran. I have a feeling of belonging to this country and to the people." - Carlos Queiroz
I was going to start writing about our game as if Germany was playing Morocco, but remembered I had already done that before. Which points to a major issue about TM; we’ve become uncharacteristically disciplined under CQ. That itself may be the single most important factor in our success in int’l games for the past few years.
We came into the game as clear underdogs, facing the much more skilled Moroccan team whose players are some of the stars of top European clubs. Enters CQ, the wiley, shrewd old fox that he’s reputed to be. We all knew he’d have major plans for this game from the moment the WC Draw was done many centuries ago. This game was our WC tournament. The entire tournament. The WC final for us. So you bet your ass he’d have plans for this. To surprise & catch the opponents off guard.
But if you thought the Moroccans would be surprised, the released line up & later on, the team formation confused Iranians too! Even after the major shock of leaving Jalal Hosseini back in Iran, which was a shocker to almost all of us.
To me our formation looked like 343, which is something I haven’t seen TM play … like EVER. Then comes his roster where the obvious choice for an experienced CB in absence of Hosseini, Montazeri was also missing. Leaving it all to PAG to marshal the defense. Along with Rezaeian, a RB who now has to perform as a CB! And Cheshmi, a part-time MD, filling in as the 3rd CB! Whoooaa, … hello!!
Seeing Hajsafi on the left DM gave the impression that he’d be running ragged between DN duties as well as part-time LB, part-time LM. Energizer Bunny, … move aside. Here comes Ehsan.
Captain Shojaei, Ebrahimi, JB, Azmoun and Amiri were the staple in TM and brought some familiarity. But what on God’s wide earth was Ansarifard doing in …. somewhere there in the midfield??? More on this later.
I’m sure apart from TM squad & bench, the rest of the world was feeling amused to exacerbated, … but also intrigued. Intrigued just how we’d perform.
We all have seen the game, so I wont go over the events. But the utter supremacy in display of discipline by TM under so much pressure was tremendously satisfying. It was understood that every single player had to take part in defense. And they did. Even JB and Amiri, our wingers, who spent much time in our own half or on the halfline than in opponents’ box.
But while we were in awe of our team cohesion & focus, there was something familiar as the game progressed. We absorbed the pressure. Kept our defensive shape. And started to get comfortable with quick counters. We even created a few dangerous attacks that with a little more focus from our strikers, we could have even taken the lead.
What became clear after the first 30 minutes of intense Moroccan pressure (mixed with a fortunate block by Beiranvand & Cheshmi to block a 100% goal) was that they just didn’t have an idea how to deal with our meshwork of players. Moreover they also had to watch for our quick moves that were starting to trouble Benatia and co. Even after their coach had a chance to reorganize his team and come up with alternatives, we saw the same old pattern of attacks from flanks that made our work easier to deal with. Perhaps it was credit to PAG-Cheshmi-Ebrahimi triangle in the center that formed an unsurpassable wall.
Their only remedy was change of personnel… which did nothing to offer as alternative for their now toothless, predictable attacks. While our lads showed more energy and drive and pushed for the kill near the end.
Yes, the goal was an own goal and lucky. But luck favors the brave. The fact that we went toe to toe with such jam packed team and had the audacity to attack them and pick our moments showed we did deserve to get something out of the game. Full credit to CQ’s masterful tactics and strategy, as well as our lads’ magnificent focused performances.
Now if Spain and Portugal are going to start taking notice of our team’s movements and tactics and especially roster, … heh, well as they say, they’ve got another thing coming. Hang onto your shorts gents, coz you might have a very bumby ride.
At this point, after the events & news of the past month, I don’t dare predict our line up or formation or strategy. However, one thing is ensured. A very disciplined TM display, yet again.
Thanks TM & CQ for letting us hope we may yet advance.
DD just complimented CQ, and was actually positive about TM?
Who is this guy, and what happened to the real Doctor Doom?
Carlos Quieroz Hails 'Beautiful' Result As Iran Steal Lead in Group B With Late Win
15 JUN 2018
Carlos Quieroz was both a happy and a relieved man after seeing watching his team snatch all three points at the very latest against Morocco in their Group B opener at the 2018 World Cup on Friday.
It took an own goal from Aziz Bouhaddouz to settle things in the 95th minute of the match. But the Iranians - who are only the first team hailing from Asia to win a World Cup match since 2010 - will take it, as they aim to make it out of their group, which they're actually leading now as Spain and Portugal drew 3-3 in the later match.
Speaking after the game, Quieroz claimed to have studied the African side very carefully before making made plans to frustrate them mentally.
"Even in the first half we started to jump out. Once we created panic in their defence the game changed. They knew we could win and that happened in the last minutes. But you need a bit of luck in football. It's a beautiful win, now it's time to rest and think about the game against Spain."
With what should be incredibly tough fixtures against Spain and Portugal coming up, the Iranians will have lots of preparing to do, with the first coming up against La Roja on Wednesday. Another win, though, should safely see them through to the next round. https://www.90min.com/posts/6091135-...m_medium=share
IF the defender didn't touch that ball ... ANSARIFARD would have met it around knee high about 2 meters away from the goal line.
Simply brilliant free kick from HAJSAFI.
Watch the movement of the Iranian attackers on the kick too. CHESHMI went BACK to wards the center circle. TAREMI moved left and was in unmarked. The movement confused the defender who was marking ANSARIFARD so much that he didn't even bother do anything to hinder Karim getting into position to score, which ended up not even being necessary.
4 Things We Learned Following Iran's Last-Gasp Win Over Morocco on Friday
15 JUN 2018
Group B of the 2018 World Cup kicked off today with a clash between the two underdogs of the group, Morocco and Iran. With Spain and Portugal the clear favourites to progress, this was a chance for the other half of the group to show their credentials and prove their worth.
While the match never really got going and the two teams found themselves at an impasse for much of the game, there were still a few interesting talking points to discuss.
Here are some of the things we learned from Iran's narrow win.
1. Carlos Queiroz Could Be the 2018 World Cup's Tony Pulis
Iran's match tactics in Sochi were crystal clear: be compact, let the opposition have the lion's share of possession and break as quickly as possible. Though neutrals may have been desperate to see Iran be a little more brave, Carlos Queiroz' game plan worked perfectly as Iran were able to snatch a late winner - albeit with the help of Morocco's Aziz Bouhaddouz.
It might not be easy on the eye, but Iran could well claim a scalp or two in this competition if they shut other sides out like they did with Morocco.
Queiroz has worked with some of the best in the game throughout his career and the Portuguese manager clearly has his tactics down to a tee. However, his side will need to find some more attacking threat from somewhere if they are to get a result from Spain or Portugal.
2. Morocco & Iran Will Have Their Work Cut Out to Reach the Last 16
We probably knew this already, given that these sides still have Portugal and Spain yet to play, but what we saw today really drove the point home. Neither Morocco nor Iran showed any real attacking potency whatsoever and the players of Portugal and Spain are hardly likely to lose any sleep over the thought of facing these two sides.
Shooting practice will be needed if one of these two underdogs are to reach the magic six points total.
3. Morocco's Bright Start Quickly Runs Out of Steam
Ten minutes into the game, there looked certain to be only one winner. Herve Renard's Morocco side looked bright, lively and full of energy and attacking intent, putting Iran firmly on the back foot.
However, their dominance was not to last. Iran stood firm against Morocco's wave of pressure and by half-time, the game had become decidedly more even.
Things got worse for Morocco in the second half, with the side hardly able to make a dent in Iran's steadfast defence. Though they looked impressive early on, Renard's side would benefit from preserving their energy a little more in future matches.
4. It Ain't Over Until It's Over
Match day number two of the 2018 World Cup was defined by late drama. Following Uruguay's last-gasp victory over a brave Egypt side, few would have expected Morocco v Iran to provide yet more late thrills for the spectators. Yet that was exactly the case in Sochi this evening, Bouhaddouz' own goal coming in the 95th minute of action.
To make matters worse for Morocco, the chance would not even have occurred had Sofyan Amrabat not sloppily given away a free kick on the edge of his own area. The lesson here? In the World Cup, you simply cannot afford to lose focus until the final whistle blows.
My god I lost my voice after Iran scored and I went mental. WHAT. A. GAME. [emoji1130]❤️[emoji24]
Me and my friend were at an Iranian cafe here in Dubai. After the first 10 minutes of the game, fesharam oftad because of how bad we were playing. I really couldn't feel my hands and legs for the entire game. When we got that goal, I was on the floor. Ba chai nabat Mano jam kardan
