Iceland played allot better then we did vs Morocco.

Indeed they did. The smallest nation ever to participate in a World Cup isn't intimidated by their opponent no matter who they play. They don't have the Iranian inferiority complex - which is why they got a deserved draw today instead of being happy to lose like we did against Argentina four years ago.

I'll take Iceland's coach over Quieroz any day of the week. They play with determination and keep their shape. They're extremely well put together, unlike what we saw from Iran yesterday where our 10 field players ran around like chickens with their heads chopped off.

iran has one of the weakest, most unknown squads and has prepared for the world cup in face of sanctions, and economic troubles.

however we have heart and the best coach in the world and we will fight and earn respect.

quality of football is measured in possession, passing accuracy, shots on goal etc and in this department, we will set new records! our passing rate was 55% versus morocco, extremely low....and it maybe even less n the next two games. i doubt our possession will be more than 20% in the next two games. this shows we are really struggling out there and are just parking the bus. nevertheless thats all we are capable of and we should hope with a bit of luck we can get another single point.

baba after 30 years with the most money being spent, and emkanat, and hype, and dissapointment, and the same pathetic cycle for every major tournament, england finally did decent, helped in huge part with the easiest fixtures ever en route to semi final. Youd think this would be a good time for humility given the realities of the past, but I guess thats not the english way...

dadash, as an Irooni who haven't won anything since 1976, I would've thought you could relate to England's struggle. I guess empathy and understanding are just not part of your personality...

Also why are you so mean? Why are you wishing you for people to be upset and to lose? you should speak to a therapist about your thought processes.

it has to do with the cocky attitude of english (which you yourself sorta demonstrated by highlighting his old comment just to gloat). Its gets tiring/annoying to see so much hype given to a team that has always been underachieving despite all of their resources and financial power and media power. This WC they have played as a team, and have been solid, but saying they have anything beyond solid would be a stretch. Even against sweden they werent amazing and sweden actually had many good chances that pickford saved. Not saying english shouldn't be ecstatic, but the attitude that england have already won the world cup and are the best team in the tournament so far and have been scintillating and are "banishing demons of the past", etc, etc, is just a false narrative.

Sorry for coming across as mean.x you are Iranian. I have no beef with you. However constantly having English people in Canada pronounce my name wrong or watching them act as racist cnts all the time really makes me go against them.

Not that i'm Pro-English or what but a lot of you always talk about how refs rob you guys(which might be true) but this sounds cocky attitude to others. You know being a giant in club football doesn't mean success in international football otherwise France who have never dominated European club football would have never dominated international football in early 2000s. England failing at international football has a lot more other reasons.

And on the part of being racist. I'm sure Iranians don't experience the same type racism like us. You guys at least dress like everybody else.

As for international football in general, it's hard to say whether a country underachieved because generations of footballers comes into play here and not just getting one or two top players coming through into a particular generation at any given time. Long term planning is also at stake here and for me fundamentally is the situation within each respective league and how seriously the production line is being taken. How many of those home players are protagonists within their own league and how many are protagonists at the top clubs!

All of that matters when the national team manager selects 23 players for qualification and subsequently the competition itself if successful in qualifying. The coach is important but not fundamental because at international level he needs to be more of a mediator with egos and then have a top staff to analyse games along with his own acumen.
