"Top spot in the group is not for sale and neither is it for rent. Spain are a quality team but we want to keep top spot," said Queiroz, who is leading IR Iran for a second successive FIFA World Cup.

"If the game against Morocco was the World Cup final for us, the game against Spain (on Wednesday) will be the Universe Cup final," Queiroz had said after Friday's win.

Cheshmis weaknesses didn't change overnight, he has still got them.
If you noticed when we played vs Turkey we had a higher defensive line - That was not the case in the Morocco game, hence why Cheshmi with his physiciality as his strength look decent, but there were also other players who had his back.
Cheshmi in a more high defensive line is a receipt for disaster - He lacks speed and isn't the best in 1v1 duels on the feet.
His strength lies in ball distribution, physicallity and aerial superiority.

Before this world cup, my favorite PFDC catch-phrase was "[insert name] for TM!"

From now on, it shall be "CQ mind games!"

Dear Uncle Napoleon complex for sure!!!

Those games were within 3-4 days of each other. A 4 week recovery time is pretty serious.

Did they say 4 weeks? I’m assuming by rest of World Cup they just meant our next 2 games

i'm guessing the game against Portugal is the multi-verse final? we could potentially end up playing parallel universe portugal where their Cristiano Ronaldo is a goalkeeper.

@ 91.5 minute, CQ is seen shaking the hand of Renard. Couple minutes later, an own goal by Morocco. Coincidence? I think not. It is rumored CQ's abilities go beyond mind tricks - he has started using jinn and spells more recently.

Also, @ 78 minute, the camera shows Pejman, announcer talks about him, and TV animations write Pejman is coming on for Omid. But it is actually Majid Hosseini that sneaks in.....a slide of hand

Just being honest, but I really don't think Spain with Costa and Portugal with Ronaldo are particularly concerned with which unknown Iranian league defender is playing.

Good. That's the best part about their rude awaking

And the best part is Lopetegui might have scouted Iran, but Hierro won't have! We're all pleased Spain sabotaged themselves.

Maybe he will put Cheshmi next to Ezza as dmf and Hosseini as a CB?
