Japan team got word of Colombia scoring and stopped playing. Like the defenders would pass the ball back and forth and Poland was content with 1-0 win so they did not press. At one point a Poland player sat on field

Ironically, japan advanced on FairPlay. Just imagine if Senegal scored, how stupid would japan look for not pursuing win

Japan went through cause they had 4 yellow card and Senegal had 6, imagine people reaction here if that had happened to Iran

For the first time since 1982, no African teams in the knock out stage.

The thing about Senegal is that all of their players play in Europe and they just got eliminated with 3 average performances.

I have no problem with Japan wasting time that way. Many countries, including Korea in 2006 WC, have done that and Franz Beckenbauer was watching the game with Chung MJ and he praised the Korean team for knowing how to waste time. However not all time wasting is the same. Grassrolling theoretically can be carded and should be carded while passing among themselves is completely legal by any measure. However as it happened in an Olympic badminton match in extreme cases some sanctions still can be imposed after the match but it never happened in WC soccer.

Also I don't think Japan rested their best players. These were most likely players that had the best form in the mind of the Japanese coach. Shinji Kagawa for instance has been known to be out of form for a while.
Personally I like to see them crushed in the R16 by Belgium or England but I think they can do surprisingly well or may even pull an upset.

Pathetic. Both teams should be fined and suspended.

Japan broke the Asian record for the most knockout stage appearances.

                    3 Japan (2002, 2010, 2018)
                    2 South Korea (2002, 2010)
                    1 North Korea (1966)
                    1 Saudi Arabia (1994)
                    1 Australia (2006)

Though it was the worst of its kind since if Senegal scored just 1 goal then even if Colombia scored another goal Japan would be out.
In that sense it was more of a desperate, rather than daring, move with even less sportsmanship ranking pretty close to grassrolling.
They lost most of their non-Japanese supporters and it may work into the referee's head who thus far has been massively kind to Japan unlike to other minnow nations.

So many people believe Fifa is corrupt and groups are fixed and who goes through and who is eliminated all pre-scripted. This suspicion sometimes look well founded. When you see two games simultaneously played but one team namely Japan knows about the outcome 10 minutes before the end of both games, It makes you really wonder if all those suspicions are actually true. How can a head coach be so god damn sure that Senegal is not going to score an equaliser ten god damn minutes before the games end?? This can only be gaff by the Jap coach!! Certain nations when they open their mouths, you see something American sticking out. A player does a red card foul and gets a yellow!! You get a group with 4 pathetic teams in it and then they group Iran with the world and Europe champions to make sure this defiant nation under heavy sanctions who does not bend over for trump to dick it does not achieve much!!! Frankly it makes the whole thing a farcical and I sometimes wonder why we bother to take part in a tournament organised by a body that is so corrupt and so controlled by big corporations

                        نگاه میکنید.

I actually didn't mind Japan making the knockout stage until I saw what they did today. Of all of our Asian rivals, I hated Japan the least but it was truly shameful what they did today.

They basically back passed to each other and stopped playing once Colombia scored on Senegal. It also looked like Poland was fine letting that happen and just going home with a 1-0 win. I wish Senegal had scored and tied the match with Colombia and eliminated Japan.

So much for the Japanese honor... right?

We where 8 years the best Asian team better tgan Japan. Japan was lucky to have an easy group

the only reason japan made it out of the group is because they played a 10 man cololmbia for 87 minutes and barely won 2-1

iran is the best team in asia and should be in the round of 16 with morocco. but VAR and corrupt FIFA took that dream away from both of us
