Iran the new greece of 2004

I was thinking and thinking.. Who remembers Greece winning the euros 2004?

Their playstyle was exactly like ours and nobody did give them a chance to win the whole ting but they dit it with a defensive and strong game..

One thing what is funny to mention, they were in a group with spain and portugal just like us. they won from portugal and draw with spain.

I'm hopefull we can draw tommorow.

their stats even look like us and i think the game tommorow is going to be like the final Portugal Greece.

iran's playing style is nothing like greece.

we are not capabale of making more than 100 correct passes in a game and our players are technically inferior to most WC teams.

the only thing we have in common with Greece is our players' physical presence, constant fouling and lack of possession in the matches.

I don't know about all that, but I don't think we are worse than 2004 Greece. I firmly believe that it's mostly about the coach and we have one bad ass mother fucking coach. All the players are very good, sure some are better than other, bu the coach and the attack plan is what matters. I"ve said it before, TM is the Lyoto Machida of football

They were decent and well drilled, and yes in some aspects were like Iran.

However this was the European Championships, not World Cup. The World Cup has always been won by one of the big teams and a team's world class has always been what's won it.

Also European teams were poor in 2004. The Czech Republic reached the semis and Milan Baros was top scorer, that should tell you everything. Portugal were the best team in Europe but not that great, Germany were in crisis, France had been knocked out by Senegal, Spain were still underachievers, even Latvia made it to the tournament (and would've BEATEN Germany but for 2 bad penalty calls).

It's still not comparable to Iran stealing a 1-0 win over a team that hadn't qualified for 20 years.

In 2002 one of the greatest shocks in World Cup history happened when on (I think) the opening day Senegal (in their World Cup debut) beat France (World and European champions at the time). France were eventually knocked out at the group stage without even scoring a goal.

This is why I said in 2004 European teams such as France were poor, because they had been knocked out by Senegal.

Yeah i don't know why most people don't see it. Maybe they didnt watch greece at that time. But from what i remember and saw Iran plays like them.

If Iceland, Switzerland, Mexico and others are at par or even better against their strong opponents we can also do the same through hard work and discipline, we can be how we were against Argentina(2014) in every game
