I grew up in Hamilton / Burlington area so most of my day-to-day friends are not Iranian. Every WC since I was a kid my friends have been laughing at Iran, but I can tell you, this World Cup every neutral fell in love with this team. Everyone says we played with tremendous heart and deserved to top a group which we had no business even competing in. We have gained a huge amount of respect this WC, and our Team Melli have done a lot for our country beyond just football.

Take pride in our team, and watch a little more football before posting ridiculous threads like this.

The problem with the time wasting and rolling around is that people here are always yelling at Arab teams for doing it. They dont realize (or care) that iran does it just as much. They just want to pretend that somehow we are superior to them. Infact there is very little difference between the antics of Iran and other Arab teams.
Arab fans have thrown bottles at Team Melli before (2013)

They tie their shoelaces on goalkicks.

      Go down with no contact.

Are protected by Asian refs to harm us as much as possible.

      So no not the same.

Our fans are mostly javanmard as well as our team. Their players being javanmard is an exception to the rule.

Make me the head of Irans fan division and I'll convince Arab teams that Iran is hell on Earth for them.

Our fans/team barely scratch the surface of what other fans do

players from other teams gather around the ref like that. read the lips of the spanish speaking players, puto madre in a common word used lol

supporters of others teams have done much worse. like serbian fans wore a sweater with the picture of a butcher who killed several albanians to their match vs. switzerland who had players of albanian heritage on their team

swedish fans giving death threats to their player for his foul which led to germanys game winning goal

although I'm upset with Taremi's lack of finishing, i wish the opposite of death to him. i hope he bounces back and has an amazing campaign in the asian cup.

our fans have been making the most noise at the WC.... in a good way

        Don't be embarrassed, be proud.
Mexican fans with their homophobic chants which was so bad that even FIFA was angry, and it takes alot for FIFA to get angry

Mate, what is sad is to see is you "embarrassed"... why? because foreign commentators didn't fall in love with Iran?...
Typical Iranian mentality, weak... why do we all ways look to the west for validation? The truth is we did well... we played our hearts out, Spain and Portugal are years ahead of us in terms of football, youth development programs, quality of stadiums etc... and we played head to head with them. Give me a break.. you feel "embarrassed" because a couple of our young players rolled around a bit. Even world class players do that sometimes. You should hold your head up bro. You shouldn't determine the value/ worth of our campaign based on statements of foreign commentators.

Unfortunately this is the trend not only with respect to football but everything else... if only Iranians had more confidence.

That said... it is primarily our own fault that we are not respected, I really believe Iran has the footballing talent and passion to be in the top 10 nations... the only reason we aren't is because of our shitty stadiums, no youth programme, no management programs etc... we can fix all of this with a good 30 year development plan and GAIN the respect of everyone.

Stand up for your team and be proud.
No need to be embarrassed. This is football - not a dance recital in Victorian England.

We didn't get "Saudid" while Saudis once again got Saudid. we made Spain nervous, 4 nutmegs including a beautiful one against Pique. Our goali saves a penalty from Rolando and we draw with European champions while beating one of Africa's best teams that in next game manages to score 2 goals against Spain and you aren't proud?

Bieranvand falling pretending he was hit against Spain
Our players rolling around like crazy pretending they'd been fouled
Our players arguing with the ref aggressively
Our supporters going over to the Portugal hotel the night before the match trying to stop them sleeping (!!!?)

Overall I think we lost a lot of sympathy from people who would otherwise have supported us as underdogs.

I only say this as I love the team and don't want us to have a bad reputation.

Compare this to the reputation of Senegal or Japan. Not much cheating... supporters collecting rubbish after the game.

For a proud and noble nation that has been centuries ahead of the rest of the world in terms of civilisation I can't see how it is acceptable for us to act so badly. What have we become?

Sorry but it really disappointed me. We're better than this.
Thanks for sharing. We care that you are disappointed.

New members making new posts are in full force these past few weeks.

How many "thank you" threads did we have yesterday?

let's be courteous to one another here. let's not ruin the positive atmosphere our boys created in Russia.

I don't think we lost anyone's respect. But I do agree that the grassrolling has really gotten out of hand. Unfortunately I think it's just a feature of modern football now. Our players are grassrolling more than ever. I realize it's a tactic to frustrate the opponent and kill their momentum (especially stronger opponents) but it doesn't make me proud to see.

The way I interpret this behavior from our boys is that they're doing literally ANYTHING they can to win, and have to resort to these tactics against stronger opposition. It reminds me of one of my cousins in Iran, Shervin. He was 5-6 years younger than the rest of us, scrawny, weighed about 90 pounds. But extremely, EXTREMELY competitive in football and would do anything to win. Hated losing. And as a result, on those hot summer afternoons in Shiraz when we'd whip out the toop-pelastiki and gol-kuchiks, he'd really push the bounds of ethics (call BS fouls, roll on the ground in agony, etc). the kids in the neighborhood wanted to ban him. He was horrible to play against, but great to have on your team. these Shervins grow up and become TM players....it's all part of the game, especially now.

Really hope Shervin doesn't visit these forums, lol.

We had one bad grass-rolling scene in Rezaian, that's it. Other than that, what can we complain about? With Morteza, Ronaldo clipped him with an elbow. The right reaction.

We just had our best showing ever at the World Cup, in the hardest group. Really, nothing bad to say.
