It is a tough one. We were truly in the group of death, with no 4 and no 8 ranked team as well as the best of Africa to play against. (Rankings as of pre-world cup). Morocco really had a bad keeper, other than that they twice led Spain and had more ball possession against Portugal and got very unlucky. So for us to get the results we did should have put us as no 1 in Asia. However the same way Japan qualified because of fewer cards, they had slight edge over us, and they advanced to the next round. Also their team play particularly in controlling the middle field was superior to ours. I guess if we both make it to Asia Cup finals, we would know, won't we?

Well Japan became the best Asian team by making it out of their group.

But after Japan we are the best team from Asia. The whole world has a new outlook and respect for Iranian football as well as Portuguese coaches.

Carlos Queiroz has not only put Iranian football on the map but also has shifted the attention onto himself and onto other Portuguese managers.

I wouldn't mind someone paying me €1mln sitting on a bench at a club, eventhough Enayati's corpse probably would score more goals than me.

So by this logic Japan is better than Germany because they got out of their group!
And Saudi Arabia is better than Netherands because Saudis qualified to WC!

Its doesn't make sense... its like using FIFA ranking to say who is stronger than whom.

Put Japan in Iran"s group and they wouldn't qualify to next round. The way Iran played, Iran would be round of 16 if we were in Japan's group!
If Italy was in WC, they wouldn't lose 5:0 to Russia, and put Saudi Arabia is Italy's WCQ group and they wouldn't qualify...

                Cannot agree with your statement.

                  form their group.
And their last 10 minutes vs Poland was a complete farce that
needs to be addressed by FIFA.
So without a shadow of a doubt Iran was the best Asian team in
                  this WC.
The Japanese can say the same stuff about us though. That we actually did not win anything ourselves, were given 3 points thanks to an own goal and that we did not have any goals in open play and at the end did not advance. In fact we were the only team in history that had an opportunity to advance without having scored a goal. It is easy math, advancement is better than no advancement. stats are fair.

The easiest way to put it is this: Who would most teams (e.g. Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Croatia) rather play - Japan or Iran? Undoubtedly, Japan.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

Anyone who thinks Japan is Best in Asia needs to go and have their heads examined. Japan's arse would get whipped badly by Iran if they ever put Japan in the same group as Iran. Obviously they still would get that support from the ref. But One thing for sure, Iran is not for sale. And that is why they have kept Japan away from Iran for quite a while. Japan is the darling of America and the west. This should translate to a lot for those who understand what I am talking about. So you if see Japan doing well in the world cup it is with a little help from their friends.

Japan is an over the hill team and there is no future for them.

Iran is a young team that will prime in the next few years.

Some fans underestimate Japan but if we play open attacking football like them, we won't survive at the WC. We had to play against Morocco with an underdog style. Meanwhile Japan outplayed Senegal with attacking football. Our squad is weaker than Japan. We have better defense but they have better defenders. Their defenders can cope with one-on-ones against world class attackers. That's why they can play attacking football. Take a look at their regular defenders.

Hiroki Sakai - Strong right back who is a regular starter for Ligue 1 ginats Marseille and has been linked with Napoli, Inter and Milan
Maya Yoshida - 190cm centre back who is a regular starter in the Premier League
Yuto Nagatomo - Tiny left back but he has great speed and incredible stamina. He played more than 200 games for Inter.

What about us? We had to start Rezaeian who struggled at a random Belgian club. The big problem with our current defensive style is that we can't score at the WC level. We have to score to advance. Our most goals in a WC is 2 goals.

Well the answer seems to be pretty obvious now: Japan by a landslide, despite what the polls results show (which is understandable)
