If this is temporary and for family reasons - i.e. spend more time with family. That is understandable. But if it's because of criticism, that's a cop out. If CQ OK'd it, then I will feel comfortable with Sardar's decision, as it must be a serious family illness to his mother (God forbid).

Hopefully his mother will be OK. Some people do need to take a bit of a break for family reason, that's understandable and we should respect Sardar and hope his mother gets OK!

I hope his mother gets well and he comes back soon.

Ok, lets see this scenario as an opportunity rather than a loss.

Gucci has already said farewell to TM and now also Sardar, even though I am 120% sure that in the case of Sardar, this is just a temporary thing.

So we have two of the forwards of TM gone for now.

Who can take their place right now. I am sure many of you would mention Kaveh Rezaei, which I agree. But who else is out there that can be a prospect for the future attacking line of TM?? Is Allahyar from U17 TM that just recently signed with SS too young? What about Shekari? Is he a forward and is he too young and inexperienced too??

Alipour impressed with Persepolis. Taremi can be slotted in as the top striker. It depends, really.

          Allahyar is too young.

            I salute his decision.

Otherwise the mafia will never stop picking on him and his family.
The alternative would be for him to join them or pay them protection money, but he has too much character for that.

Now I wish all the best to him and his family. I hope he finds a top club, does great and come Asian cup the public will be begging for him to come back with nobody daring to speak against him again.

His rating on the front page is plain unfair. Anybody who had paid good attention saw that his performance in all three games was flawless and that almost every little move was on spot. Judged by his objectives on the field, this was a pure world class tournament by him.

God bless him and his family and best of luck to them all

I don't know if this has already been said but him retiring from international duty makes him a lot more approachable to European clubs, no long trips on international duty and he won't be missing January for the Asian Cup.

Although I do think that this 'retirement' won't last long.

Azmoun is an extremely talented player. but he is yet to learn what it takes to be a difference maker. He needs to learn the difference between good players and great players. if you listen to anyother world class player, you will never hear them say, i had to run so much, and if any of you were in my place you would be tired as well. are you kidding me? last time i checked soccer is about running. if hes not in shape then its on him and no one else. maybe he needs to take couple of years off , mature up then come back. we need him.

I support his decision. He should focus on his family. When you play for your country you need to be able to provide your 100% physical and mental strength. I wish all the best for him and his family.

I think Sardar been great and hopefully he will change his mind, but am I they only one being reminded of Azizi? Older members remember for sure how Azizi was great (if it wasn't for him we wouldn't have made the WC in 98) but he used to always complain , even in the field. Expecting certain plays and passes from other players

Azizi still complains even to this day. At one point he was complaining why Khiabani nicknamed him “ghazeleh tizpah" and not “peykan-e sefr kilometre"....jk bout the last part!

I think its the nature of good players to complain. They are elusive, as they have to be. They are sometimes GHOLDOR as they have to be.
Maradona, was the best of Argentina, and he was a non stop complainer, sometimes rightfully so. even in case of AZIZI sometimes rightfully.
                                Romario, the same.

But then again, you had players with character, who never complained, like our own PELE (yes I have theory he is Iranian from Ahvaz ) or Franz Beckenbauer, Gerd Muller, Adesor Vafaseya, Zico etc etc.
