Baba I said it many times, 2018 was our best WC campaign ever!
But qualifying was more difficult in the 70ies.
Having said that, as i said and repeat, WC 2018 was our best campaign ever regardless of how many teams participated!

from the 1978 match fixing corruption to the fists of God cheating ......

"It was also claimed some Argentines were so high on amphetamines they had to run for hours after games to get back to normal. Random drug tests were no use?—?the team’s waterboy Okambo supposedly supplied the urine samples, with the help of his wife. Officials were stunned when one test found that a player was pregnant."

"Argentina won 6–0. Peru’s Argentine-born goalkeeper Ramon Quiroga was the first person fingers were pointed at?—?but there was something bigger going on. Before the game, Argentine leader General Jorge Videla visited the Peru dressing room to talk to the players. A few weeks later, 35,000 tonnes of wheat were sent from Argentina to cash-strapped Peru. Argentine banks also unfroze $50m of Peruvian assets, and it’s been alleged that 13 Peruvian dissidents went the other way in exchange for the alleged fix."

Our players were amateur or at best semi pros and aside from goverment sponsorship had second jobs to make ends meet..

              Guys
              Let’s not over exaggerate ok.
Japan is a very good team, did Asia proud and plas very fluid style of football but I still rank Iran slightly above them.
Iran was the best Asian team with the least amount of preparation vs good quality teams.
Japan played the best top teams in the world in the last year since qualification.
JFF’s annual budget is $250 million vs IFF’s $25 million.
Let’s not forget when Japan played Colombia they had a one man advantage for 80 minutes and they got lucky to qualify for the
Second round because of less yellow cards.
I am not trying to make excuses or be unfair but I mean we got lucky too, however you are gona see how good we will do when we will play Japan in Tokyo
In September for that friendly game.
Here is my ranking for Asia
              Iran
              Japan
              Korea
              Australia
              Saudi Soosmars Arabia

With all due respect, Holland made it all the way to the final that year, and Peru was the 3rd best South American team right behind Brazil and Argentina which had won the 1975 Copa America.
Never the less, the game against Peru in particular was so close in quality that if played again the next day, Iran could have very well won it 4-1. We created and wasted so many golden opportunities in that game.

You didn't go overboard, Peru was indeed the 3rd best South American team right behind Brazil and Argentina which managed to win the Copa America of 1975.
Til this day, many believe that with the quality that Peru had in that tournament, they should have never lost 6-0 to Argentina which was the host of the tournament and needed to top Brazil with a better goal margin in order to get to the final game because in that particular tournament, there was no semi final game. So in the opinions of many, that 6-0 loss to Argentina was fixed.

78 Peru game was a do or die all or nothing, our boys took the game to Peru but got scored on by that beast Cobilas and that opened up the game and we conceded on fast counters.. against Scotland also we could've won had we not scored an own goal.. that federation and program would've taken us much deeper in the following world cups if disaster of 79 never would've taken place

Japan has been in the knock out stage of the world cup three times since its first participation in 1998 including the one that they earned in this year's world cup.
Compared to that record, we are nothing but pretenders and wanna bees brother.

The knockout stage in a World Cup featuring 32 teams meaning they were amongst the final 16. Been there, done that, long before them.
