1) I agree. Offensively we were very poor in this WC. Never displayed a football that I for one as a fan enjoyed.
2) Now that CQ is staying and particularly if he stays another 4 years, IFF should demand that he fixes our offensive part of the game and work on more fluent attacking football.
3) I am a little bit afraid that CQ is not the man who can improve Irans attack.sigpic

I follow Iran, if we had players like Saudis then I would be happy with the results. But we dont we have players with heart, soul and Talent. Reality and facts (like in this thread regarding offence) are what matters end of the day, at the same time with a lucky win against Morocco people where very happy in Iran and around the world so thats special In its own right.

I also just want to add, that if you compare our performance quality wise, we played much more beautiful and attacking football in 1998 world cup than in 2018. I really enjoyed the way Iran played the full match against Yugoslavia and USA and the first half against Germany. We created many more chances and displayed a much more offensive football. We only narrowly lost to Yugoslavia because of an amateurish mistake by our goalkeeper and we beat USA.sigpic

That means in a little diffrent world Iran would go out without scoring a single goal and 1 point.
against
CQ knows and knew that iranian people are like this, just come back with 3 points after saying we have no chance against anyone.......... with so much players in offense we didnt even go for a goal.

First of all TM-players achieved good results, played with honor and pride for their nation
and show some great fighting spirit. We had def. one of the best defense in the Group-stage.
Since you need to find out weakpoint to get better for future campaigns, we have to
look at our weaknesses without blaming immidiately. We cant expect TM to play 90-min
high pressing and offensive game, specially against Teams like Marocco, Spain and
Portugal.
BUT we can expect our players to string 4-5 passes together to create
in some scoringchances. I have no problem to park the bus against spain and wait for
counterattacks, but i def. have a problem, when we get the ball and dont have a plan what
to do with it. We had many many promising counterattacks but our players made most
of the times bad desicions so that we lost good opportunities. Everytime a player got the
ball upfront i feel that they played with to much stress and withou confidence. Just look
how Korea park the bus against Germany but made some speedy short passes in their
counterattacks. No doubt we defend much better the Koreans but the Koreans showed s
superior abilitiy to transit from defense to offense.
We just cant deny the fact that we have big gaps in our passing-build up game and
in creating scoring chances from an open play. I am convinced that our current TM+
a fit Dejagah would have done much much better in the offense, since dejagah has
the ability to hold the ball, to make crucial dribbling and creating scoring chances.
Anyway, I think there are multiple reasons for that like bad prep. camps, lack of good friendlies,
bad football education of iranian players in genral compared to european standards,
the cultural aspect (we always tend to give to much credit to past achievements and names
so that we are too afraid when facing players like Iniesta, Ronaldo, Ramos etc.) and many more
factors.
With all thah being said, without blaming the coach or the players,
but we were def. the worst Team in terms of passingrate, possession
and creating chances, so that i hope that we will work on that till
AFC. Teams like KSA, Japan and Korea have the edge over us in
these aspects which doesnt mean that they are better in total.
I hope CQ stays because the players trust him, he can motivate
our players to play with 120% determination and because
CQ gave us a top defense.

Actually our great results would have been even greater if other medicore
Teams wouldnt have peform good as well.
-Island tie Argentina
-KSA defeats Egypt
-Korea beat Germany
-Japan defeat Colombia& tie Senegal
-Marocco totally domnated Portugal& tie Spain
-Australia lost with good peformance against France
These results take the special surprise effect away from TM.

Great post, exactly my main concern, by seeing both Spain and Portugal in this tournament, they were both beatable, we played too conservative and with a team much more talented than 4 years a go, i guess we could actually played more attacking minded game, at least for the last 1/3 of the match. We have respected both Spain and Portugal too much. I always wonder if CQ has any strategy other than direct game plan, because other than Masoud he never believe on having a classic CAM. I love what he has done for our football, but as it was said we were one of the worst team in level of making plays.
