Offensive or defensive? Which style of football should we be playing?

One thing that we should acknowledge about the style of football is that all the while a defensive style is the safest way to ensure not to lose and relying on counter attacks to even win games, the trend these days is the offensive style. We are witnessing offensive football in almost all games apart from Iran ones. Offensive style of play is well encouraged by everyone in the football industry from pundits to fans. Everyone wants to watch a fast and speedy game with many goals. Fans just love to see that rather than a boring dragged out game with one team attack and the other just defend. Many football pundits and critics didn't approve or support our style of play. The defensive style of play maybe ok for us taking into consideration that we are really not a football powerhouse though I believe we can be one, . But I also believe that if CQ stays in Iran until next wc, perhaps he can build a team that can attack and defend and play fast attacking games as it is expected and encouraged by the football world.

    What do you think?

I don't get how its so hard to grasp:

The truth is, if we play attacking football, we will open up our game and concede many goals. We are #1 in defense in the World Cup and some of you guys are still complaining?

We should have never even lost to Spain, let alone Portugal. Carlos' tactics have been immense for us.

I think we should play like this:

I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

I imagine those who keep persisting with the argument that we need to change style and play some expansive football are people who have been brought up on a spoonfed diet of following Real Madrid/Barcelona/Liverpool/etc all their lives and believe that they can apply the same logic to TM. I'd recommend the very same people go grab a season ticket to Rah Ahan and gain a sense of perspective and understanding of football outside of the elite bracket.

i say we keep playing the way we do. however at the professional level, our players need to learn how to control and protect the ball. they seem very amateurish when they play at the elite level. also we need to work out stringing a few passes together. a lot of our counter attacks ended pre maturely because we couldn't keep control of the ball.

if we open up our game, then we would have been saudied by our group.

as far as the fans that only watch soccer every 4 years and the media goes i really don't care what they want to see. all i want at the end of the day is 3 points and i don't care how we get them.

but i feel if our players go to europe this season, then they should have adapted to the elite level by 2022 and i can see us playing attacking football, but in a conservative way

Man immediately I get 4 replies responding to the title of the thread. You guys really bother reading a thread or read it a bit more carefully? I am a supporter of CQ and all he has done for our football. And yes I do believe his style got us this result. But please read my original post again.

Did you watch how Uruguay played against Portugal? We should play exactly like that? But wait, we already do that. If only our finishers could put those goals away we would have beaten both Spain and Portugal.

Here is what I think, if you're playing a weaker team you offense them to death, if you're playing someone about your own strength then you make sure not to fall behind and then offense them to death, if you're playing the likes of Morocco, Spain and Portugal that are heads and shoulders ahead of us, then you play JUST like we played them only a few short days ago to the praise of the world and the pleasure of all of Iranians.

                      Balanced.

Something with 2 Forwards, considering how stacked we are at the position.

                        The midfield is weak.
Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.

Select an excellent coach and then shut the hell up (as a fan) and let them play he wants the team to play. This might not suit and please all the millions of experts with triple PhD's in football, but does it matter really....

when we would play the "Iranian" style (what I actually read a few times) we would concede about 8 goals from Spain, 4 goals from marocco and 6 from Portugal...
we don't have the players to control the game. we could maybe do it in Asia cup against Taiwan but not against marocco or Portugal.
im really surprised I don't see the Queiroz haters anymore

You know if there is one thing to be said is look at what happened in 1998 when we didn't play so defensive. Multiple players like Daei, Mahdavikia, and Bagheri made it into big leagues in Europe because our players got noticed. In such a defensive style of play, players do not have the chance to get noticed as much, it just looks good for the coach to lose to superior teams with a small margin or tie them. So, while I am very optimistic for the future, I think maybe we should have played a little more offensive? But hindsight is 20/20 and it doesn't matter now. Let's go get that Asian Cup, once we do that, we can talk about making it to the final 16 and perhaps even the final 8 in the next world cup :-)
