The ONE incident you'd change in each World Cup, for Team Melli?

    We've qualified for 5 WCs.
1978 - we played Scotland, Peru & Holland
    1996 - Yugoslavia, USA, Germany
    2006 - Mexico, Portugal, Angola
    2014 - Nigeria, Argentina, Bosnia
    2018 - Morocco, Spain, Portugal

and in every edition we've had a few incidents & instances where we almost scored or almost denied a goal or nearly did something brilliant or ... .

If you were allowed to change ONE incident in each one of these WC's which would it be?

for example, for 2018, would you pick Ezatolahi's goal to not be judged offside? Or Taromi's shot against portugal to go in? or Ansarifard's thunderous shot to sneak in? or ... ? Or maybe Beiranvand deflecting Quaresjma's shot? Or Ramin kicing the ball away from Costa? or ... ?

pick 1 instance in each WC. meaning only 5 instances to possibly change our football history ... or not.

for the 4 wcs i have seen
98 - Nakisa position himself better to make that save vs Yugoslavia
06 - Mirzapour on the bench. (The botched clearance vs Mexico)
14 - Ref call that penalty vs Argentina
18 - Taremi score the last minute goal vs Portugal

        too young for 1978.

1998 -- Minavand to score that 1v1 against Yugoslavia.
2006 -- Branko fired before the WC starts
        2014 -- Dejagah's header gone in
        2018 -- Taremi's last minute shot.

          1978 -
Scotland game - I wish Eskandarian's scissor kick had not gone in our own goal.
That would give us the win against a very excellent Scottish team.

          1996 -
Yugoslavia - Daei's header to go directly into the top corner, instead of trying the ground angle.
givng us a draw against a very tough yugo team.

          2006 -
          Angola
          - Mirzapour saves the angolan shot, giving u at least 3 points in a disappointing WC

          2014 -
          Argentina
          - RGN's shot to sneak in the corner
giving us a great draw against a giant.

          2018 -
          Portugal
          - Ghodoos' low shot that curved away from the goal, to curve in, into the corner.
handing us a win over euro champs, kicing portugal (and penaldo) out of the WC and ending in us topping the group

            1978 - wipe off Eskandarian's own goal
1996 - start abedzadeh in goal instead of Nakisa
2006 - ask Mirzapour to stay back in Tehran
2014 - Ashkan to get the clear penalty called for him
2018 - Taremi not missing an empty net

              was it eskandarian?
              I remember they said sadeghi.

maybe you're right. it was indeed eskandarian

those picking penalty vs argentian still leave it open to a 1-0 loss, as we could miss the penalty

Change the refs in all the games, !! we lost to the refs biased decisions, especially in 2014 vs Argentina and 2018 vs Portugal!

^ Sad? maybe. But it has a couple of lessons for us to learn from. Fans as well as TM players.

                              1- If you all notice, there are 3 incidents running common to almost everyone's list;

                              a- eskandarian's own goal
b- Nakisa/Zarincheh's positioning (in Yugo game)
                              c- Taromi's shot.

each one of these stood between making great historic strides/moments for our football.
each one of these were borne out of an individual's error or capability or inexperience.
meaning whether it is inexperience or error, the good thing is IT CAN BE RECTIFIED.
which means only honing our skills and desire to perform even slightly better, can make massive differences in the fate of our teams and history.

which means, historic achievements are definitely within our grasps.
We dont need to think we're any lesser than the illustrious opponents we faced or will face.
(I also wish CQ would go through this and starts to really and truly believe in our lads' capabilities)

It was only inexperience (and stress of playing in our first WC) that cost us a win vs scots.
It was the same inexperience and slight human judgment that denied us a draw against a top shelf Yugoslavia, & maybe even be in the running to advance from the group (4 points in 2 games vs a very old german team).
It was only a slightly less than optimal decision that denied us topping the group this year.

ALL of these are easily overcome. a slightly more experienced, cool-headed player could have, would have changed these events with ease.

We need not be scared of any opposition. We do have the capability to beat just about anyone on a good day.
Maybe Japan & Korea have understood this, which shows in the way they approach int'l games. We shd too.

                              2-
The refereeing/calls are out of our hands.
But even that ought to tell us the same as above. That had it been a more fair call, we could have achieved great feats.

                              ----------

                              Keep it coming chaps.
