VAR is great !!!
We got our goal against Portugal from VAR. What if we had VAR in the last world cup and that challenge on Ashkan dejagah against Argentina was converted to a penalty with VAR? You guys wouldn't say VAR is bad then.
They already have goal line technology, so the VAR isn't needed for any calls of the ball passing the goal line or not.
The VAR should be used more like an assistent referee for smaller impact decisions that are not open for interpretation, no need for the referee to review those calls. So if they see that it was a corner, they should just tell the ref to call a corner and he should instantly call it without reviewing it.
For higher impact decisions (penalty red card), they should just notify the ref within 20 seconds if they think it's needed (bad decision, missed the foul) and have the ref review it. It really doesn't make any sense for them to review it for 1 minute and then call in the ref and have him review it again. This way you'll make sure the game doesn't get slowed down like it happened with Iran vs Portugal (took minutes before we got the penalty).
That also means that if the foul was outside of the box or there was no contact with the diving player, they should just call it immediately as those are also facts and not up for interpretation.
Whether we call it goal line technology or a VAR related call, it's all the same ..... someone has to review it and overturn a call made on the field. If a ball passes the line or deflects off a defender for a corner, it's pretty straight forward. Those are calls that should be reviewed and reversed if needed. If a ball touches a defender's hand and has no impact on the play, and yet the officials decide to call ANY handball in the box a penalty, then unless you call every handball in the box a penalty 100% of the time, you are not being fair.
The objective should be to reduce errors and not completely make it an error free game. Errors in officiating are part of the game and if a ref makes an error, it's simply because they missed it. When you try to make it an error free game, you end up abusing and overusing VAR and in some cases, doing these "makeup calls" which means using VAR to makeup for a previously screwed up call. So your suggestion of using VAR for penalty, redcards and missed fouls basically opens up the game to alot of questionable and inconsistent calls on the field, and let's be honest, the majority of times, the top teams will benefit from it.
and if you're concerned about the game slowing down, then you have to limit the use of VAR.

I admire VAR but I still think it was too early to bring it in such a big tournament such as the World cup. It had to be implemented in leagues across Europe before and then once it was perfected they could have brought it in the World Cup.

This is a general question about whether VAR should be used in football. It's not about whether VAR helped Iran which is also debatable in itself. Yes, we got a goal because of VAR, but that doesn't mean we will always benefit from VAR. We also had a goal taken away and a redcard not given because of VAR.

I think in general the times that the VAR was used, it was for the better and in the future it will get better and better.
Both statements you made at the end are not true. Iran's goal against Spain was called offside by the assistent ref!!! If the the VAR was not there it would have been called offside immediately. Now the VAR was used in our favor to allow the goal, however they rightfully disallowed it.
The red card for Ronaldo, without the VAR he wouldn't even got the yellow. The VAR asked the ref to review it because they thought it could've been a red, however the ref decided to give a yellow card instead. Again the VAR worked in our favor here, the ref just decided not to do anything with it.
