As such i'd imagine that the fan base is emotional and looking for someone to vent their frustrations on and the most obvious answer for them is Alireza since they had high hopes for him. At the moment none of them care if he is a top quality player, in their eyes the team is in a trench and its because they can't build anything going forward.

Looking at the team itself, beyond just tactics, i think that the players are FAR too harsh on mistakes they make. I'll give you a good example. Today, the spurs team was trying to break down Brighton's defense and in doing so, every single one of their players--Son, Rose, Alli, Eriksson, Lucas--all of them gave the ball away many times and were dispossessed from either errant passes, dribbles, etc. In NONE of those cases would you see their teammates immediately give them heat for it or try to withhold the ball from them afterwards.

But you watch Brighton, if Alireza attempts a dribble on his fullback you IMMEDIATELY see anger from either Stephens, Propper, Murray, Knockheart, doesn't matter but the team mentality is brutal and negative and it is clear as daylight that the culture needs to change. It most certainly is contributing to the abysmal chemistry in this team and is pushing it towards an 'individualistic' mentality where when players get frustrated they just try to do everything on their own.
    Great post

Would probably do a better job of setting up the team and getting the best out of their players

He's not a midfielder and he's not a guy that is gonna throw dime crosses into the box on a regular basis.
I agree that he's not a mid. But he was second in assists in Holland last season.

Not saying he cant pass or support a high striker. Just saying he's not a David Beckham style winger.

They know this is not FIFA 14 right?
That's easy; Pascal Groß to find Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the hole when Danny Rose pushes too far forward, and then a cross onto the onrushing Florin Andone

One of the biggest problems is that ARJ gets very few offensive opportunities per game (whether it's delivering a cross, carrying the ball upfield, or being able to make a forward pass when's he upfield, etc.)

Thus, it's extremely unfair to judge harshly when he fails to convert on those opportunities cuz the sample size is so small. Winning the golden boot in the dutch league is no small feat--I doubt many players in the EPL would be capable of that, especially in the manner in which he had scored those goals.

My hope is by midway next season everything will start to click, or he needs to play on a more offensively fluid team.

If he is playing double RWB theres a 0% chance of that working.

In fact it would have made more sense if you said Pascal Groß is in the hole with the ball until Jahanbaksh makes runs as a inside forward.

As Farbod said its very clear Jahanbakhsh is not a touchline winger. He cuts in. Murray refusing to 1-2 with him severely hinders contribution.

At least Andone has some chemistry with him.

Quick question, Why are you on this forum if you don't rate Arj? just doesn't make any sense.

Yes it did and Andone could not convert. If Brighton spent 17 million so that Jahanbakhsh needs a 100% chance to goal/assist conversion rate they are being very unrealistic.

Still 0% chance that works as their attacking strategy going forward. The real problem as highlighted on here and begrudgingly on NorthStandChat is the midfield. If a team is going to be so deep that their attack has to spring and cover 50+ yards before a tactically/technically superior team falls back into defensive shape, they need CMs who can jumpstart the attack with precise leading balls to the wings/attacking midfielders. Propper/Stephens are simply incapable of this and play more like accessory Center backs than Center midfielders.

Leicester City played as defensive as Brighton does now. Kante wins ball. Drinkwater sends ball to Albrighton/Vardy/Mahrez boom. It wasn't Drinkwater/Kante pass ball to other team and Albrighton/Mahrez have to defend double duty with Fuchs and Simpson.

A reasoned reply. BHA looking to sign a Mahrez and haven't got a Vardy. Solly March at a pinch is comparable to Albrighton. Both are bit on the fringes of lower PL quality.

Accurate long balls/passing to the flanks is a BHA strong point, both in number of accurate passes and instant control. What lets the team down is the final ball and finishing from open play.

Opposing teams have got wary of this at the Amex and play deeper. Bournemouth especially had an extra defender and Arsenal took off an attacker to preserve the 1-1 draw.

Newcastle are the worse opponents as only Burnley and them are more defensive than Brighton. If Brighton go behind they will tend to push forward and get caught out in the same way. Montoya and Bernardo are not so defensively alert as Bruno and Bong.

Wolves are the new Leicester, good at exploiting over extended wing-backs.

That's because Beckham wasn't a winger. He was a classic 4-4-2 right mid.

I saw David Beckham's Man U debut live, aged 17, touch and positioning very much like ARJ nowadays. Played wide.
