The snag is the Premier League limit of 25 players of which 8 must be home grown. Brighton have 30 players of which only 8 are home grown including established highly successful centre backs. Dunk, English centre back (star player) and Duffy (Ireland international). The club would have to be exceptionally ruthless to find a place in the squad for another foreign player over 21. It is just about possible though.

As the previous poster inarsenewetrust said, the starting position of central position is not up for grabs at Brighton. Neither was the right wing position.

Bro what are u talking about "Neither was the right wing position".

LOL u think Brighton spent their record amount of transfer money to buy a right winger in which the right wing position is not up for grabs??

If it goes through, what a time for Iranian fans! I can’t remember that much excitement since the times of Daei Kia and Hash In Bundesliga.
I remember those times ... but honestly, if PAG and ARJ are in the same club in the Premier League ... this is the most exciting times for Team Melli fans, when it comes to club football.

Well.. we need a centre back. It would be unexpected as we need a home grown player but if we have been priced out of the market for a home grown defender then perhaps there could be a surprise.

I'm afraid he would certainly struggle to get into the team because we have a very established pair who won many plaudits last season. The first choice backup Balogun also looks good. It is the Premier League though, you need very strong competition for every position and you never know what might happen with injuries, suspensions or surprise transfers of our own players in the coming weeks.

RW position is not empty. Current occupant is Knockaert.

CH likes to have two players for each position.

Notionally, Brighton just have three centre backs. Dunk, Duffy, Balogun, so there is one free spot.

At the moment, the starting XI is unknown. Consensus says Lewis Dunk at centre back is the only definite starter.

Big money signings Izquierdo, Andone, Locadia, Jahanbakhsh, Bissouma all seen as the future but will have to earn their place.

The more I think about it, the more it seems like a good idea that Morteza Pouraliganji joins Brighton. It would mean one current good player not getting into the squad of 25 though.

Initial thinking was that the current pair of central defenders in Dunk and Duffy contributed to the second best team in the Premier League at defending from open play, and were already good enough in the centre of defence until we get the inevitable injuries and suspensions. Very few last year. Morteza Pouraliganji would find it difficult to get into the team. And he seems to be used to regular starts. At age 26, he would only benefit from regular appearances nearing the peak age in his career.

Perseus, of course Jahanbakhsh will have to fight to take over the starting position. That is different from saying that the right wing position is not up for grabs. It is up for grabs and Jahanbakhsh will mostly likely take it, although he will split time with Knockaert and Izquierdo as well.

Guys, not to sound like an ass but Brighton conceded quite a few goals last season. That means there is definitely room for improvement. I'm not saying it's the CB's faults. In fact I haven't seen the current CB's play from Brighton. I can however say one thing, Morteza Pouraliganji is one of the best in the world. Out of all the games I have watched him play (including Spain and Portugal: supposed offensive powerhouses) he has been flawless. I have truly never seen him make one mistake. I cannot say the same thing about other players though!

                    he makes a good point..!!
as much as i'd love PAG in EPL/especially so if BH, i dont want him to be riding the bench all year in hopes of a cup appearance and us praying all year for an injury to one of the 2 key starters !!
CBs are sorta like a GKs, Coaches rarely ever just rotate between CBs for sake of rotation ..! and once they find a pairing of their liking with good chemistry, they pretty much use them in all the vital league/cup games till an injury or suspension force their hand...!!
if indeed true and he has a La Liga offer or other other rumored Western EU teams, he should opt for teams who are more in need of a starter..!!

Weren't there whispers about Dunk getting an England call up last season?

Another thought: I'd love to see Pouraliganji at AZ tbh, it looks like they could use him

it was my slang phraseology that was written down not precisely. Not "up for grabs" is slang and can be understood differently. Semantics. I used the version meaning unclaimed which may or may not bethe version used most often on the other side of the l pond. i.e. England. I have never understood any other meaning.

In essence I was trying to contrast it with the situation where the existing player had left and needed to be replaced.

Brighton conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last season, worse than the top 6, Burnley and Newcastle. The anomaly was 22 were conceded from set pieces, mainly corners (an abysmal statistic). This may be put down to bad organisation or concentration ??? Goals conceded from open play (excluding own goals) was 22, only less by Manchester United 12 and Manchester City 20.

The problem for Brighton is foremost scoring goals.

Always room for improvement. Always room to getting worse.

As much as that's true, it usually is only the case for big transfer rumours. The journalists and regular readers of DM are probably too thick to even attempt to make up rumours regarding random Iranian players, Pouraliganji is hardly going to generate clicks. That sounds like it's based off credible information. Exciting.

I don't think Brighton would be the best destination for PAG. He is in his prime right now, he needs to be playing somewhere where he is playing every single game, or at the very least have a very good chance of breaking into the starting 11. Brighton's strong suit is their centerback pairing, I don't think they're going to disrupt that. So yeah, I don't want Morteza to be riding the bench, he is the best performer of our national team and I hope he can go to a club who are looking to upgrade a CB position.
