Guys, its not an exaggeration to say that we had arguably the most disciplined and miserly defence in the world cup, all of them young players. All the pundits watching out team were amazed at how tactically flexible and well-drilled we are.

I know we have troubles, due to being an "evil pariah state", with agents, sponsors, other less visible companies etc... in getting transfers when compared to other countries....

But we really can't have our best defender being a substitute or a bit-part player. He needs to be playing games, wherever he goes.

It's a minor concern. Let's be real, give the man the best part of 30 days of coaching time and CQ will just create another defender capable of putting in world class performances out of the remains of whatever crap the PGL serves him up with.

      Montazeri
      Pouladi
      Heydari
      Beikzadeh
      Sadeghi
      Ghafouri
      Pouraliganji
      Cheshmi
      Hosseini

Those last three in particular owe it all to the man and show the progression his leadership has led to in our football. From having to milk out performances from Beikzadeh to developing talent that looks so good even the European sides can't keep away from. I don't even want to think what Taha Shariati will become if CQ was to last another 7 years.

Heydari? He wasn't even a defender. He was RAM/RW! Beikzadeh was unproven too.

        Otherwise I agree.

Didn't Heydari have a solid stint at RB at some point? I may have imagined that tbf. And I just put in Beikzadeh as much like Cheshmi, I clearly recall him being the source of much derision by fans and he went and put in some solid performances in big games.

The priority is to get as many players in Europe. We aren't in position to choose between numerous offers, to snub Brighton for our CB (we didn't have many CB in Europe in history).

I agree. But if Rahman Rezaei can play 6 Serie A seasons as a starting centre-back at a time when far fewer Iranian players were in Europe, then PAG at the same age should be getting the same kind of thing.

He would be signing as a free agent rather than an expensive marquee signing so there would be less pressure for Hughton to start him, and more risk that he could be a bit-part player like Ando was for Bolton or complete bench warmer like Karim at Charlton.

If the likelihood of him getting games is higher, I would rather he signed for Trabzonspor and trained with his fellow TM centre back, would be better long-term for TM imho.

Looks like before the ink has barely dried on the title of this thread it needs to change to PAG @ Brighton 🤞🤞

Trabzonspor is a club way below Pouraliganji's abilities.

He's 26, had a stellar World Cup performance and has been a rock solid defender for our since his debut in 2015.

Brighton is his level so he should be heading to them if there is an offer.

From what I saw of Balogun at th World Cup he looked prone to mistake and at 30 has most likely been bought as a back up option to Duffy and Dunk. Dunk got some very good reviews last season and if he has another good season he may get a move to another club if they put a big offer in as seems to be the norm with these young British defenders ie Andrew Robertson, Harry Maguire.
There is definitely scope to find a way in to that starting 11 and for Brighton it would be a cheap result with someone who’s wages wouldn’t be too high and has experience of playing against some top players.

Has this been posted? Balogun believes more competition on defense is good for BHAFC. Interestingly this interview was completed just as the PAG to BHAFC rumours started to take off.

or even better! Pouraliganji is a much better defender than Rahman Rezaei was. At least at TM level.

Local journo says an emphatic NO, he surmised to be for much the same reasons already stated. i.e. Brighton already oversubscribed with foreign players.

Even with Percy Tau most likely going out on loan? You’re going for that young Ecuadorean striker as well so I suppose so.

if those Getafe rumors are true,??? id love me an iranian in La Liga as well...!! my close 2nd favorite EU League..!
and im even more confident of PAG having an immense immediate impact at that league and managing a more steady starting spot there than seemingly in Brighton and the EPL..!

its also worth noting that he was more of a natural DM before Carlos adapted him to CB position in TM in order to address the aging situation there..!! So he is indeed quiet athletic and adaptable player with energetic and aggressive style of play which suits EPL and could even compete for a defensive mid position in Brighton if need be..! also he is a damn good header of ball which could come in handy in scoring from set pieces or clearing of such in their own box..! besides he is in his prime age coming off a brilliant performances at world cup in arguably group of death, who says that he couldnt compete with the current favored pairing at Brighton and unseat one as the favored ...? besides 3 deep in Vital CB position is simply too shallow, especially in such a challenging league where injuries and fatigue is nearly guaranteed..!

the whole limits and requirements on number of foreign and home grown players is another set of serious issues which could well become the ultimate deciding factor in this possible move falling through or materializing..!

Under 21 do not count for the quota. Tomer Hemed (Israeli international), striker, may not make the first team squad?
