Mediocre performance by Iran U-23 in AC 2018 tournament opener

I mean well, but noticed defensive lapses, poorly coordinated offense, and somewhat shaky midfield. What exactly has the coaching staff done to prepare this talented youth squad...? Please watch the highlights and post your game reviews + player ratings here.

By sending an underage team, they get used to loosing.
Every team should have the appropriate age in it.
The players that are of the right age to participate in this tournament get passed over without any experience.

This is idiot management to power of 10

It was the first game and obviously this team is under prepared. 2 months of training randomly doesnt do much help. I wish our players would stick together through various age groups and just add 4-5 players to the original squad every cycle.

But having said that, Krancjar is a very qualified coach for this level, and has some very good players at his disposal, albeit not many. Ghaedi if he can just tone the khore bazi back a little bit, delfi are very exciting wingers. Soltanimehr is a talented CM. Mehdikhani is a unique winger sort of like Taremi, physicaly presence, hard worker, gets in good positions. Derakhshanmehr despite his recent injury woes is a very solid left back. St Mark also mentioned zamehran as one to look out for. But from my recollection, even last year and and the year before when we had the Chamanian and Peiravanis team we were never very good in the first stages of this competition. The team gradually grew in strength. Its important they didnt lose.

But its concerning that Physically they are clearly weak and lose many 50/50's and tactically still undisciplined and go through many phases where they are all over the place. Lets just see how they perform in the coming days though before making more definitive judgements.

Not every one has CQ managing their team so this is normal and we better get use to it when CQ leaves forever!!!

From the highlights it appeared the U-23 team is prone to be scored on via counter-attacks. The coach's style is not familiar to me, but I believe he had a couple of successful seasons with Sepahan FC. He needs to make sure the team plays a balanced style. Watch the awesome game between Atletico and Real Madrid. Diego Costa was fantastic, but so was the build up to the goals. It can motivate the young players if shown and analyzed at the camp. Time to be proactive for the U-23 management. No excuses...!
