At his age Rahman Rezaei, a less talented player, was in his first of six seasons in Serie A....

Would it have been so bad for TM if PAG had been converted back into a defensive midfielder at Trabzonspor? He would have got used to playing with Hosseini and Amiri in a decent club, could slot alongside ezatollahi for TM in an absolute unit of a defensive midfield with a tactic which favours them.

I can't help but feel he's made the wrong choice going to a very likely relegation candidate in belgium at 26...

What confuses me is that he was linked with some respectable clubs such as AZ, Brighton, Trabzonspor and some how he lands with the worst team in Belgium that nobody has heard of. I’m sorry but I’m beginning to think PAG is only in it for the money.

Again, everyone acting like a know-it-all and criticizing this move. Is there something any of you are ever happy with ? He is in a European league, in a team where he is guaranteed to start on a weekly basis. Yes chances are they are going to get relegated but he is still going to get the European exposure.

Let's face facts, our players are not wanted by the big European clubs, not matter how well they performed in the WC. Our rising star, Jahanbaksh could on a muster a Brighton contract. I am not sure what you guys were expecting ?

If he went anywhere else, ya'll would have some shit to say.

Are we ever happy for any of our players ? Ever?

          Are you serious???
Rahman Rezaei was for sure one of the best CB we ever had in Team-Melli.
I remember him being one of the few defenders who were able to stop Ronaldo and Vieri in their prime time.
For sure he wasn't that versatile like Pouraliganji but he was a classy defender with a very good positioning, for Iran and his club.

Rezaei was a beast. Even zlatan has trouble with him. even seyed jalal would stand no chance vs rezaei he was strong as a bear and tall as fcuk

I was a fan of Rezaei, but PAG is better. He is pretty much the same height as Rezaei, physically is actually a fraction stronger and makes fewer of the eccentric mistakes that Rezaei used to make for TM. Plus as you say he is more versatile. He is arguably much stupider though, for going to China, Qatar and eupen.

You'll find quite a number of people on this forum who are really critical of Rezaei.

Rezaei's form for TM dipped quite badly from 2005 onwards, but for the first few years with Iran he was immense and he is one of our most successful legionnaires of all time.

Rezaei was good but he was prone to impulsive bad decisions.
such as the penalty versus Ireland, or his fight with Badavi or his performance versus Mexico in 2006.

He didn't have better offers, Trabzonspor wanted to play him as a defensive midfielder, while he is much better as a central defender. He had every right to decline the Trabzonspor offer, could've potentially ruined his career. Also if he chose money over prestige he would have stayed in Qatar not some small club in Belgium with low salaries lol, such strong arguments some have here. I wish him the best of luck, he is clearly trying to succeed in Europe and took the only real offer he got.

All that ever comes to mind when I think of Rahman Rezaei is that horrible mistake he made against Mexico in the WC

Best of luck Morteza! You have our full support and we’re happy to see you in Europe. This is a great stepping stone and we hope to see big improvements from you!! Also if the Turkish club really wanted him to play CM I’m really happy he didn’t sign, we saw Carlos cut Ghafouri for not playing RB In his club, I think we’d lose PAG as well.

I liked Rahman too and I agree 100% that he was prone to act based on impulses. Remember him slapping around our own LB (who was young and stupid) in the Oman game in AC 2004 in China? What was the LB's name?

                            Ali Baadavi.

BTW, Rahman had quite a few sootis at team melli, but was excellent in the Serie A.

Without joking, Raiola actually forces his players to some very nice clubs.

both of these are sorta true..!!
Rezaie was certainly your typical big-leagues, No Nonsense, Big, Strong, Physical defender..! his poise and temperament was lacking and he was prone to get too nasty at times on the pitch or have a brain fart..!
PAG is a lightweight by comparison, but he seems possibly a smarter CB? (in terms of positioning) and definitely more athletic and faster of the two..!
Also another fact that most here seem to ignore frequently is that its far, far easier to shine as a CB in CQ's ultra defensive scheme of play than in a far more open and balanced game approaches we had in TM prior to Carlito's arrival..!! you just dont get tested as vigorously internationally as a Defender/GK/DM in TM these days than players used to in the prior coaching regimes..!

the problem PAG is having currently is that he approached his career assbackwards..!! most players resort to gutter/china shitt in twilight of their careers, but he started chasing $$ early on, so obviously he is now facing difficulties attaining trust of a formidable EU club based on his club career background..!

what im confused about his latest transfer is that i still wonder if Money still play the most vital role in his decision making ?? or is it more the lure of playing in big leagues that drove him to this latest move..??
my guess is that its a combination of both..!
