Hey man I respect you alot so dont get offended when I say this to you.
This isnt a video game its real life.. We arent going to play tiki taka or samba style tomorrow, Italy has always played Catennacio, Infact they invented it, And that has 4 world cups for them. We are not going to dominate because our players are average with god given talent and recently motivation and hunger to fight and play, Thats why we have been respectable for the past 8 years. If you get rid of CQ and the discipline he has instilled in our football culture. I gurantee you we will go back to loosing against small teams and missing out on world cups

some people here do not want to discuss reality. They have ideas in their heads about football they watched on TV or played in video games. This is real life. Results matter. This isnt a club side where CQ has months to train players and develop them. He needs results every time TM steps on the pitch. And more often than not he gets them.

Since WC I have talked to many non iranian football fans about what they made of TM's performances. Only positive. Everybody talked about how unlucky we were and how well we acquited ourselves given limitations and realities of the group. The only complaints have come from braindead iranians, seriously, you would think these guys are missing brain cells.

Now I am not saying CQ is immune to criticism. Failure to play ghoddos more, start milad in last match, and be slightly more proactive in general are totally valid complaints. But when you consider the caliber of our players vs the opposition, and the fact that our players are so inexperienced at this level that it took them 20-30 mins to EVEN START playing the game, it would not be a serious statement to say CQ was at fault or he should be replaced, etc, etc.

Some people live in dreamland and think TM can be something that it just isnt and wont ever be. How do you expect a team to keep possession if its central midfielders didnt even train properly on good pitches until their 20's?

Look, I am not saying the realities are to be dismissed. I know when playing Spain, Portugal and the big teams, most of the world is going to be facing the gun rather than pointing the gun. CQ is a master at this. But...we know over the years, Arabs play antifootball, we know this is going to happen again as we have 2 such teams in our group. I do not want CQ to play a single minute of defensive strategy. Why the heck would you play sole striker against these teams as he has in the past. Go for it, let's not leave matches to the ref, antifootball, or even counter-attack style. Our style of play has never been this way, this is only CQ's strategy in the last few years. Do you or other members not recall 4-3 Korea? There was a time scoring 2 or 3 on Asian opponents was like drinking water for us it came so naturally. Now we win 1-0 or draw games. This is absurd as Asia is the weakest confederation outside of Oceania...and we are supposedly the best of this weak lot of teams!

I also know I am not the only one to feel this way so to call some posters brain-dead is absolutely insulting and ignorant. If members can't have a respectful dialogue on a discussion forum then they don't belong here. Anyone who feels like I am brain-dead should ask to see my educational background let's keep it respectful and civilized. Of course as a TM fan I sure hope I am wrong and we win AC in serious fashion that leaves no doubt who Asia's best is! I will gladly return and say I was wrong CQ was right. But after 8 years and still no first in anything my gut says go with the consistent bet.

Per 90, his passing accuracy is very high. Based on data they used..

Should have been included: Farshid Bagheri, Shekari, Noorakhan, Mohammadreza Azadi, Sasan Ansari

Should not be there: Masoud, Montazeri, Sohrabian, Sardar, Ashkan

I don't understand the complaint against including both Shojaei and Dejagah in the camp (which consists of over 23 players). A team requires a variety of characters to function properly and that includes leaders. What's more is that if both are in the squad, it's because CQ believes they can offer something on the field besides leadership. Transition takes time and with a major tournament ahead of us (and very little preparation in place), it makes sense that CQ is including 2-3 experienced players in his squad. Until 2014, one of the primary complaints against CQ was that his squad was not one for the future but rather one that was assembled to perform optimally at the World Cup.

In the four years since, we've seen the introduction of Azmoun (23), Ezatolahi (21), Mohammadi (24), Torabi (23), Majidi (24), Pouraliganji (24), Taremi (26), Cheshmi (25), and Ghoddos (24), amongst others. This doesn't even include others that weren't part of the final 23 for the 2018 World Cup but will be phased into the team soon (Rezaei, Gholizadeh, Shekari, Moharrami, Delfi). The point is, CQ is taking his time building a squad for the future; it's easier to replace the pieces one by one in a functioning system than to overhaul it entirely in one go. When the time is right, CQ is willing to let go of players (Ando, Hosseini, Khalatbari, Karimi, Nouri, Heydari, Sadeghi, etc.). Overall, I have faith in what CQ is doing; even if he choose not to replace anyone, he already has - on paper - the majority of players which can go to Qatar 2022.

Give the man time. Today, it's Shojaei and Dejagah; tomorrow, it'll be Montazeri; the day after, it'll be Ebrahimi and Amiri; then, Rezaeian, Hajsafi, and Ansarifard. It's a never ending cycle and I trust the discretion of the coach far more than some fans who have time and time been proven corrected.

I don’t understand why there is shock that a handful of extremely young players who have been getting 0 playing time for their clubs didn’t get invited. I mean Delfi is 17 years old for crying out loud, he could barely stand straight against a U23 teams. Shekari has been coming off the bench IN THE RPL. Sure he’s talented but let’s see him get minutes first. And before you guys point to Dejagah getting invited in the past despite being clubless, let me remind you that he has been one of the most reliable and consistent players for TM in the past 5-6 years. For a winning tourney, you need the older guys who are looked up to in order for the team as a whole to succeed.

What about Arzani? He was playing week in, week out with MOTM performances.

team needs leadership, you can actionpack a team with the best players but without leadership they would fail,..

There is no surprise in the latest list and one was not expected.
CQ has a single task, winning a championship and to that, he will rely on most experience players he is comfortable with. Unless a young player in the next few weeks forced himself upon him by exceptional performance, there will not be an addition to the list.
it was said one of the terms of his new contract is a longer extends beyond the Asian cup should he reach the final.
CQ mission is to win the Asian Cup with whatever means even by his vintage defensive unattractive tactics.

For now best is to support him but beyond Asian game i think its bad idea to keep him.

Why is that? Do you think IFF will be able to find a better replacement?

BTW, I'm really glad to see Kaveh Back in the list. Also Sadegh Moharammi really deserve. Well done.

And regarding Sardar, I fully understand he's invited since there is no official "khodafezi". I guess as someone mentioned in earlier in this thread, he's invited, if he rejects now, then he will be gone, at least as long as CQ is head coach.
