From Carlos Queiroz's words: so it seems some are trying to undermine Azmoun by bringing up religious/ethnic issues? Bi-namoos and bisharaf to all of those trying to divide Iran! They are traitors.
Sardar is 100% Iranian - and what his religion or lack of religion is or his ethnicity or lack of ethnicity - khaak to sareh all of those who try to hurt Iran.
Haven't seen the whole interview, only saw a short part so far but it was great so far. CQ said something along the lines of:
Azmoun came to me first about this decision and told me all the details - and I wont reveal these details, because they are not a good look for the society of Iran. Let me say now, as long as I am coach, Team Melli is not a place that is only for players in the North, South, East, West. Its not a place only for people from the capital city. It is not a place that is only for whites, blacks, armenians, muslims, or christians. It is a place for all Iranians.

Here are my two cents: Sardar is Turkmen (an ethnic minority in Iran) , he also belongs to the Sunni sect while over 90% of muslim community in Iran is Shia. There are other ethnic minorities in Iran (Baluchi, Kurd, Arab, etc.) with majority of their population being Sunni. Creating division based on ethnicity or religion has long been and continues to be an issue in Iran. Based on the quotation above (I have not heard his exact words), CQ is implying that there are people who have used Sardar's ethnicity and religion against him. That is why he is insisting that Team Melli is for all Iranians regardless of their religion or geographic origin that again could mean ethnicity since many ethnic groups have certain geographic population concentration.

I think it's risky to draw such inferences. It could be that people insulted Sardar based on ethnic or religious grounds but for all we know it could have been other things...I mean in our history never has a player complained of racicism in TM.
Queiroz implying a couple of times in this interview that their approach to Asian teams will not be the same as their approach vs Spain (obviously).
Just for those who thought we were going to sit back and defend against every team in our group - CQ said something along the lines of we are expecting to have 50, 60, 70 % possession against teams in the AC - and if we can apply pressure on them the whole game, we will do just that.
Really recommend everyone watch the full interview. Some very direct answers regarding Ghafouri, Seyed Jalal, and how they want to approach this tourney.

Hope this translates to something more desirable on the pitch. It was refreshing to see CQ finally state we are #1 and one of Asia's best because that underdog line he has traditionally used (even in Asia) was annoying me in the past.

Sardar is not the only Sunni in TM, Vooria is too without such reported claims.
When first Sardar talked about leaving TM( via Insta), he said its mainly is about his Mom.

Exactly. And our Christian players have made no such claims in the past. Seems like Sardar's story is evolving...I question why now? I also do not want to rush to conclusions.
I don't think Azmoun being Sunni has anything to do with his situation.
We had Ando as our Captain and he was Christian, so that's not an issue.
Also Vooriya is Kurdish, Dr. Z is Kurdish and they are all Sunni. In fact, Dr. Z
is a fierce critic of CQ. Azmoun is just a kid and needs to grow up.
As far as CQ, we have to be used to his antics by now. He will do like before.
Pick a fight with club managers and then go on a vacation, come back 2 weeks
before the camp for Asian Cup and tell how bad the situation is with his team
with lack of friendlies, clubs not cooperating, etc....and lower expectations for
the Asian Cup and most probably get eliminated again in the 1/4 finals.
And then repeat the same defective cycle if we keep him for another 4 years.
