    Afshin Ghotbi sacked again

Iran's Afshin Ghotbi sacked again, this time in China

    In China:
He had an emotional departure from his hotel with many supporters thanking for his service.

I am by no means a Ghotbi supporter but a coach's lifespan is pretty short. Most leave their jobs (or get fired) after 3 or 4 years

I agree with his Iran stint. He had a fairly strong and talented side and couldn't get them to qualify for the WC (relatively easy qualification process)!

That was mostly due Daei, before he took over it almost looked/felt impossible to qualify and although he was talking big saying I'll qualify for sure and failed, he actually almost got the job done.

Still not a good coach though.

Hes a bit better than GN, but as Sinead of O Conner once sang: " NOTHING COMPARES 2 U ( Carlos Quieiroz!)

it was not a "relatively easy qualification process" as you put it. Flying to play a strong N. Korea in their country, flying back to Tehran to play a home game and then flying back across the continent yet again to play a strong S. Korea team on their home soil in a span of 2 weeks is not easy. We dug ourselves a hole and that was due to Daei.

Guys, if anything I think it was more Ghotbi's doing. But that's debatable. Daei came in when the damage had already been done!

Yeah man, sounds about right. Ghotbi screwed up the qualification with his 2 games in charge whilst Daei's 6 games in charge before hand were perfect 3 pointers. I mean why did he even get sacked in the first place?!?

                        Here are the stats:
                        Ali Daei 24 15 6 3 62.50
                        Afshin Ghotbi 30 16 6 8 53.33
Let me know what you think !

Why are you commenting on an issue when you don’t even know the correct sequence of the events? Ghotbi came in AFTER Daei had failed miserably and took over a demoralized side that needed at least 7 points to qualify, from one home match and two away matches. And Ghotbi almost did the impossible and qualify us, was it not for a late Park J Sung goal. Now was/is Ghotbi a great coach? No . But was he better than Daei? Absolutely. Daei had no business being the national team manager and used his connections to get the job and cost us a World Cup qualification as a result.

Thank you for clearing the record. That's how i remember it as well. Mayeli kohan started the disaster. Daie struggled and Ghotbi did well enough that he was kept on for the Asian championship.
