You guys are all so quick to write off Perspolis

Poor second half by Persepolis, Branko showed one more time, his teams doesn't know how to defend in crucial situation which is a must in today's football. Beiranvand was bad on both goals, specially the second one, the defenders also sucked on the second.
Shoja played hell of game, too bad this guy has attitude issue, he was almost getting red.

When we were playing well, Resan was great in this match.

Losing Nemati was disappointing.. He brought it onto himself. The Japanese player was play acting but there was too much aggression from our boys.

Japanese teams play very calculated. They kept their composure at home and took advantage of their opportunities. That second goal for sure could have been prevented. Miscommunication and sloppy positioning led to that goal. The first goal was solid.

Congratulations to Kashima on the victory. They were clearly the better team today. But there’s still the match in Azadi and I’m not losing hope just yet.

After a great first half, the team completely fell apart and collapsed in the second. Reminds me so much of our WC game against Mexico. In the second half the Japanese coach made some smart tactical changes to which Branko had no answer to. Just like our TM game against Mexico.

Being down 0-2 on aggerate is now quite difficult to overcome especially that we were unable to score the all important Away goal.

theres still a chance for PP to win guys, although not high, they're not out of it just yet as there is 90 more minutes to be played.

the ref was horrible today, seems like him and the kashima players got saudied

however, our players at the end were very barbaric, which isn't validated, but i understand since its an emotional game. shit happens

iran usually play 11 v 12 since the other team has the ref, in the 2nd leg it will be 12 v 12 as 120,000 roaring fans will give PP the boost they need.

it should be one hell of a final. don't ever loose hope.
            SHOW TIME!

Well in Azadi when we conceded a goal from Al Duhail, we all thought it was over for us, but then 3 goals we scored at home saved us and advanced us to the next round. Never say never! [emoji6]

Personally feel the away goals rule is massively outdated and only seeks to stifle games. The weight of an away goal is just too heavy. It's just not as important as it used to be anymore. They should do away with it all together. Why should an away goal be as important as a home goal? A goal, is a goal. They are equally as valuable.

The game in general has completely evolved from where it was at. Football was far more defensive back in the day. Teams didn't have the tools at their disposal as they do now, in terms of scouting opponents. It was a lot about going into the 'unknown', not knowing what to expect, so away teams would set up conservatively to combat this.

Some away trips would be absolute hell in terms of travelling, it wasn't always straight forward plane journey's as it is now. Of course, if it was a mission to travel, something like this would only add to the disadvantage of being the away team, so away goals would obviously be more valuable but in this day and age, travel is so much more easier. Players have all the comforts they need, it's like a home away from home really. Grounds and pitches are pretty much exemplary too nowadays. I mean we have UEFA 4/5 star rated stadiums in the likes of Azerbaijan, Poland, Ukraine, Russia etc. Facilities are top drawer. It's not as daunting or intimidating.

Personally think we would see the quality of ties improve and be more competitive if we done away with away goals. And if people who actually play or are involved in the game want it gone, what does that tell you. It's time to stop clinging on to an old ideology.

Away goal rule is still better for the quality of football in general. If they take away the away goal rule, teams will be more inclined to play defensively away from home- which is negative- even if this effect is not as big as in the older times that you described. Defensive minded managers especially would double down on parking the bus, and ultimately this sort of approach to a match is negatively recieved by most observers. Providing an incentive for opposition teams to nick a goal away from home leads to more open games, with more risks and therefore better quality viewing. I am glad it exists.

FYI, away goal rule doesn't apply in the extra time.

I read WC stats on reddit and they were superior to us in one on one stats (aerial battles, duels and tackles). Their physical strength isn't that bad if they have more than 10 players in the top Euro leagues.

The fans in Azadi stadium will be the main factor the help Perspolis in the next round.. They better make a damn scary atmosphere for Kashima.. I don't think they've ever played in front of a crowd that big.

Perspolis needs a playmaker in the CM. It's very clear that the offense needs some creativity. The striker arent fed. Can't rely on through passes from the wings. Very one dimensional. Unfortunately, there are no Shojaie type players on the roster. AliShah is the closet thing but he sucks. Dare I say even Ahmadzadeh would be doing a better job in the role.

Kashima wasn't anything special but I have to say PP played a brainless game. Actually may be we shouldn't expect to much pp has no good players. They all suck at this level of football. Alipour shoja neymati aalisha..brainless ...
