Tehran: Female football fans have expressed their appreciation to the Asian Football Confederation for making it possible for them to attend the second leg of the 2018 AFC Champions League final between Persepolis and Kashima Antlers at Azadi Stadium in Tehran on Saturday.
The presence of the female fans for the first time in 40 years in an official match at the Azadi Stadium was due to the efforts of AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, together with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran. More than 1,000 female football fans joined a capacity crowd for the Continental showpiece which saw Kashima Antlers emerge champions for the first time. The female fans shared their excitement and joy at being in the Azadi Stadium on social media.

Many times foreign women are in attendance especially when they come with their team.

Iranian women are very strong people, they make life difficult for Iranian men, I wonder WHY they do not stand up to IRI?

Writing to AFC was a good action.

No Keano jan. There were no women in Iran Australia match in Tehran. What you are referring to is the day the players returned to Iran from Australia and they brought them to Azadi with helicopters for celebrations.

Thanks for correcting me Navid jaan. Yes you're right it was for TM's return and celebration at Azadi.

this was a charade performed by the regime where they allowed a small group of SELECTED females (every single one is either a regime official relative or of its supporters) to PRETEND it's allowing women in.

whereas there were 1000's of regular women standing outside the stadium, NOT PERMITED ENTRY!!!!

lets not blow it out of proportion. yes, it's a very small step (even if it was under threat of force). But as long as this regime exists, these acts are like putting lipstick on a pig. superficial at best.

                  ^DD joon cool down.

there were 1 million ticket requests and only 80,000 seats.

They had also allocated a very small portion of the stadium to women. So naturally those tickets were not sold in open market and given to select individuals (mostly relatives, friends and families of players, staff, celebrities etc)

Of course we are far from the ideal of free entry of women to the stadiums but it was a step in the right direction
