Lessons learned:
1- Our players need to be intelligent about their game and their interaction with the referee. Many TM players body language and facial expressions are too harsh and could create a tense atmosphere towards the ref that ultimately doesn't serve us. Skipper needs to lead the conversations with the ref and remind other players to behave professionally.
2- We need to outplay our opponents in a way that gives us the safety margin in such cases.
3- The past has many lessons, we need to learn from them, take responsibility and move on (unlike what Ben Williams did)

He could not remember that he had issued a yellow already. How many yello cards had he given to 22 players that he could not remember one of them. A true redneck and stupid man. send emails to AFC and FIFa with the video clip. e dont want williams. quote him also since he could not remember and Iraqi players had to tell him. He was malicious

In this Asia Cup, TM players need to remember they are playing in a Hostile country that is now deporting Iranian businessman in droves and even average people, The UAE with the collaboration with KSA and AFC will do its best NOT TO allow Iran stand in the champion podium! This is FACT! So Refs are looking for excuses.... This tournament is TM vs AFC!

Benjamin Williams,
It is quite sad to hear your words after 4 nears since you unjustifiably red carded our left back Mehrdad Pouladi. Your refereeing has been questionable and at times a bit extreme even before the Iran vs Iraq match. So for you to not come out and at least see how and why Iranian fans would be upset just proves why you’re not a fully competent official. You’ve had good matches where you officiated with full focus and without bias. But as many have stated, you’re intention from the get go was to take revenge on Iran as our head coach (who by the way has coached in a continent that produces highly credible referees) stayed time and time again that they should have NOT appointed you to take charge of this SENSITIVE match.
Benjamin, please pay attention to the word SENSITIVE. A sensitive match in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup, where two classic rivals go to head to head. You are in charge of officiating a match with Iran for the second time after our head coach Carlos a Queiroz expressed his opinions on your officiating in our match against Bahrain.
There is absolutely no doubt in any football/soccer fan, professional and competent player, trainer, coach or referee’s mind that what you did in that game was unjust. Now we can’t prove if there was money under the table coming your way, but we sure have records from your officiating in the Australian league and your continuous vindictive behavior on the pitch.
Everything you received after that match you deserved. You are an absolute disgrace to football.
