Mods, please move it if necessary. Just thought all Asian cup stuff should be together.

Shoji, a WC starting CB who is going to move to Ligue 1 side Toulouse and Inui who plays for Betis and scored 2 goals in the WC didn't get called up either.

Maybe they want to rest several key players for Copa America in summer.

Missing a lot of key players. Seem less like title contenders now, but anything is possible with a well organized team

The issue isn't that Japan is missing a lot of key players, they're just not selecting the ones that we've always been familiar with. It's natural that players that have been with the team since the 2010 cycle are either being phased out or retiring (e.g. Hasebe, Kagawa, Okazaki, Honda). For all we know, these new players may be the Majid Hosseinis of Japan. Japan may be in a rebuild phase but I don't think it necessarily makes them any less of a contender.

He still remembers the final 2 minutes of the Belgium match and how his team collapsed.
Hence, the need for new blood.

I think the fact that they even got to a 'Belgium match' in the first place speaks to the quality of that squad though.

entirely changing up your team and getting rid of your core players is the answer only a mad man would come up with.

also the team collapsed not bc of the players but it was much more about the tactics of the game and pushing forward when you have a lead instead of playing smarter/more conservative
