If true, there are only 2 reasons why they would do this:

      1) They are actually holy and great 😇 They are doing the fans a favor because they care for the happiness of the fans.

      2) They are packing their bags and on their way out, so before the shit hits the fan (or I should say the shit bounces off of the fan and hits everyone and everything) they SUDDENLY decide to do this to calm Iranians from a future protest. Because you see, we all know what’s going on in the Shahrestans. And although some think the economic disaster in Iran may be irrelevant to football, but the Sorkhabi clubs are the clubs to keep the fans distracted from reality. As are many other things: television shows like Khandevaneh, Hendevaneh, Mehran Modiri, etc.

I think they are doing this because they want to fool people into thinking everything is honky dory and that they “care” about the fans, but in actuality they have packed their bags and ready to leave. Ready to escape with all the people’s stolen money to Turkey and other neighboring countries. That’s why we hear news of the disappearance of major heads of this corrupt regime. Where did they go and why are is all this money/gems/diamonds missing?

This will never happen in a meaningful way. The whole setup of the IPL is NOT professional and it would not sustain itself. In order for a private club (or any other business) to be truly private, it needs to have a predictable and manageable revenue stream. The main revenue stream for most of the leagues are TV rights. Sponsorships are a joke in Iran. If IR TV does not pay for the rights to broadcast the games, then all bets are off.

Moreover, I find it hard to believe that IR will let go of the two biggest clubs. They may do it on the surface, but it will never happen in any meaningful way until there are major changes in the government. By the way, this is true about most 3rd world countries. SA, Qatar, etc, etc also control their football one way or another.

Even in US, there are monopoly laws that protect MLB. NFL acts as a recruiting agent for the US army. These entities are not controlled by the US government, but as major businesses with a large fan-base, they act somewhat synergistically with the agenda of the government.

So governments have always had a keen interest in sports. Authoritarian governments wield their power a bit more obviously than others.

And another reason for why they are considering this move could be because they are broke and they don’t want to deal with FIFA’s jarimeh kardan lol. Believe me these guys don’t give a crap about the fans or the sport.

The sanctions have put pressure on the regime and they don’t want to spend the money they stole to keep bailing out Persepolis and Esteghlal. This is another big reason why they could be considering this move.
