Good News: Esteghlal, Persepolis to be ceded to private sector

    https://www.tehrantimes.com/news/430...private-sector

TEHRAN - Iranian Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Masoud Soltanifar has confirmed that the country’s most popular football teams Esteghlal and Persepolis will be ceded to the private sector by auction.

The government cabinet has agreed abandoning the two big cultural-sport companies to the private sector, Soltanifar said.

The long awaited privatization of the clubs will be done before the next Iranian calendar year.

Soltanifar said the enactment of the order has been confirmed by the government cabinet.

Pricing procedure of the two clubs should be conducted within the next two months, Soltanifar said.

Iran President Hassan Rouhani had already said that the government cannot get involved in business and manufacturing sector so that they back economic privatization.

Didn't they do this a few years ago but the price they wanted was too high so no one ended up buying? lol

I doubt this would ever happen. the fucking IR is so scared of these two teams, specially Perspolis, no way they are going to let it free.

Or maybe they will privatize it under some Hajis name and still run the show. This has to be due to the high pressure from FIFA recently.

If a rich owner buys them then we can expect to see significant improvements with them. The same way Traktor Sazi has a pretty rich owner!

This won't be sustainable until IRIB pays for broadcast rights.

Otherwise, the club owners will be running the clubs at a loss no matter what.

Football clubs in Iran are not able to create a sustainable business model that can generate long term revenue from football and that is primarily due to how that backeard mullah-occupied country is managed. There are inadequate business laws.

I really hope a Persian Gulf conglomerate ( Qatari or Kuwaiti) buys the clubs as they have unbiased desire to spend big money on Asia's largest clubs and build infrastructure that no Bache Ahkund can or want to do and win championship!!!

While we are at it hopefully the change the name of the clubs into AL Etihaad Al Esteghlal and Al Shabab Al Piroozi and we have on our Team's Shirts Al Etihaad Airways and Burjal Khaleefa advertizements

They like the name "Persian Gulf" league so much they might as well do it!

No thanks. They’re just as bad but have more money.

Besides, Ali Parvin and a group of investors have already declared they’re willing to buy at whatever price.
