    Most Important Asian Cup Goals

    Hey guys,

Wanted to start a twitter thread before the Asian Cup where I would do a countdown of our top 14 goals ...

    Can some history buffs help?

    - For sure, Ali Karimi's three goals vs. South Korea makes the list.
    - Obviously will incorporate our three Asian Cup wins as well

Any others that come to mind?

Daei's 4 goals against SK in 1996. It was unreal, happens once a century in such a crucial match, against a rival which we had a hard time to beat them by even 1 goal previous to that and stage of competition! Without a doubt it is on top of the list.

Jabbari's hattrick against Thailand in 1972 while we were trailing 2-0 up till the 80th minute.
Ghelichkhani's goal against Israel in the 1968 final.
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

It actually was amazing feeling specially Iran made a come back after being down 1-2. As i said SK used to dominate us for quite few years and beating them even by one goal became as unrealistic scenario!

            Thank you KC jaan.

Was relying on your knowledge of our footballing history - don't want to just post the last 10-20 years worth of Asian Cup tournaments.

Please make a thread about 1984 AFC Asian Cup game against Saudi Arabia and the WCQ against China in 1989.

2004 Asian Cup, the second goal against Oman. From what I believe we would have eliminated in the group stage eventually if Oman got the 3 points.

I got the dates mixed up. Ghelichkhani's goal was in the 1968 final.

I'd also add Kalani's overtime goal against South Korea in the 1972 final and Parvin's goal against Kuwait in the 1976 final.

Man, i'll never forget how nervy i was during that match! I'm pretty sure it was Karimi that saved us, right?
I'll have to look it up.

                      EDIT:

Karimi scored the first and Nosrati tied it 2-2 with a great header! Man that was crazy.

Also, this was the match where Rahman Rezaei and Badavi slapped each other in the face - Never seen anything like it since.

It must be the 1968 final against Israel and the goal Kalani scored
against them. Followed by the one from Sardar Ghlich that clinched the cup.
Those goals started the ascend of Iranian football in Asia and the world.

I think Ghoochannejhad's 119th minute goal against Iraq was pretty important, forcing a penalty shoot out. Although we lost that game, it was still crazy to tie the game 1 minute before the end, especially with a man down and having conceded a penalty just 4 minutes earlier.

I agree. When it was scored it was very important regardless of the final outcome.
