But if we do not make it to the semis, at a minimum,
this time around then it's a huge failure for this team,
    the players and the managers.
    Let's roll.
    ditto
however regardless of the final score vs Qatar i wanna see a much improved conversion rate and more importantly a significant Upgrade in Quality of our scoring chances created..!!

we've been struggling mightily on those fronts for quiet sometimes now with no discernible improvements since the adaption of our more attacking game tactics after WC..!!

if we fail to score more than a solitary goal yet again vs Gutter too...!! think i rather CQ revert back to our mostly Defensive Team playing tactics for AC & perhaps slightly more counter attacking formation vs the supposed minnows in our group stage..!

I remember right before every major tournament we get some crappy result against a crappy team, but we always end up performing really good at the tournament. I am not worried. Plus this was TM B team with players who have not played along side each other for many games.

Remind us when we did really good at a major tournament?

4 points in the Group of Death. Wow, some people seem to have a short memory.

Does Palestine have a number of foreign born players?
Their goal was scored by a Chilean born midfielder.

We were quite worried, that team was lethal. The top teams should have been able to score goals easily but nope...they were struggling. Thank you TM and CQ.

I have asked non-iranian friends who are devoted football fans to rate Iran's team on a scale of 1-10 , it's usually max 6/10 but all of them believe TM's performance at the World C was memorable. Our team is not on tbe same level as the top teams, nothing to be ashamed about, their on their way, slowly but surely....
Keep calm and believe in Fairies and Footballers Roxanaz

there is a massive population of palestinians living in south america and especially chile (about 500k). They actually had a big influence on chilean football and have their own top flight club CD palestino

Why do you keep saying group of death? It was not the group of death. Both Spain and Portugal got knocked out in the second round.

Look what world football fans said after Spain and Portugal were knocked out in R16 (http://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/wc-...283/page-209):

"It’s official. Our group sucks. The fact that Portugal and Spain were struggling against those Iranian scrubs is proof. Portugal and Spain weren’t going anywhere."
"Iran won’t be remembered for anything. Portugal and Spain just suck".

One of France NT fans gave the following answer to the bolded part which was posted by one of Portuguese fans:

"Iran will be remembered as a team that sent Portugal down the oblivion path instead of the path through the park".

That is the case of many countries being in war for many years: Palestine, Lebanon, Afghanistan, etc. There are 6 mil Lebanese living in country and 2-3 times more outside!

You're saying Iran's group in the WC should not be defined as the group of death simply because Portugal and Spain did not perform well in the knock out stage? That logic is perplexing, as these sorts of characterizations should never be based on hindsight. Would you have said, prior to the competition, that Germany was a lousy team because there was a possibility they would be eliminated by the 53rd ranked team in the world and therefore not advance? Let's not forget that Iran was playing against two top ten teams in the World, The former World Champions and the current European champions, in addition to facing a very tough and motivated Moroccan team, which fought with tremendous valor and determination. Furthermore, Iran's success was in doubt because of lack of resources and adequate preparation, somewhat exacerbated by nagging sanctions. ( I remember reading many analyses Iran's team and its chances and hardly anyone expected it to garner more than 1 point in the competition.) Team Melli undeniably had an outstanding performance in the tournament.

Depends on the perspective I guess and what you think constitutes success.

Playing arguably the worst soccer in the competition, while only scoring one goal and finishing third (not qualifying) is not success to me.

Our only victory was not due to any superiority but to shear luck through a very lucky own goal.

We shouldn't exaggerate what Iran did, they played with gheyrat and we are proud of them for that but that's it!

The CQ reign has seen us play very organised and ba gheyrat but without any significant success.

It wasn't a group of death. A group of death has no clear favorites. Our group had two clear favorites.
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

You have only shared 9 posts here on PFDC, but this 1 post alone is worth more than the thousands of illogical posts from a bunch of whiny little kids who think they know everything about football.

Thank you for this and welcome to PFDC (belated)!
