Masoud Shojaei Legacy in Team Melli

What kind of Legacy will Masoud leave behind after his retirement. This will be his tournament, his last hurrah.
He joined Team Melli in 2004, 15 years, 81 games.
He has so much talent and control over the ball. Maybe not as good as Ali Karimi, but 10 times more of a gentleman. Such good role model for the youngsters.
He has been fragile with repeated injuries, but such a magician with the ball. His goal against Atletico Madrid which he dribbled the whole defense is what I remember most about his time in Spain.
His support of green movement and presence of women in the stadium must be commended.
i will definately will iss him when he is gone.
Wish he can go out on the top. Both masoud and Ashkan deserve to lift the trophy for us.
Good luck to Masoud in the coming games.

Yes, fans should organize a send out for his service to team-e melli.

It is disrespectful not to have a goodbye game for retiring players. I wish fans organize something rather than IFF.

He's definitely one of the legends, only one to play 3 world cups and consistently tried Europe rather than Arab leagues for money. I wish he grew more into a top player, but somethings he couldnt get past which held him back as being one of the best. also unfortunate injuries too. I like him a lot for his off the field stuff too.

His legacy will be that of one of the best all-around human beings to have played for Iran. Played with heart in every minute of every match, sometimes too much heart leading to unnecessary fouls. His career will be slightly tragic because he was never the same after that 5th metatarsal fracture and infection after surgery that kept him out well over a year (maybe almost two?). He was one of the most technically gifted we've ever had and maybe some of the best vision a player has had, but that one injury really screwed him and likely his political/human influence will be the most important- not giving into the ruling elite, fighting for women in the stadium, etc. One of my favorite people that has played for TM, but his in-game contribution fell short of his skill unfortunately.

My two favorite moments of his (not TM)

Happy Bday to lovely ex captain.
Let's continue the discussion, what did he achieve as player, captain and whistleblower.
I've always wondered how someone as vocal as Shojaie was able to remain captain while an artist like Jafar Panahi was boycotted. Is he more connected, how does it work or is there no method to the madness in Iran?

Great individual and human. Barely average for TM.

Strong technical player but not very mobile. A huge part of CQ's plan in the 2014 cup as the main target to receive the ball and draw a call to give the team a break and a chance for an offensive play. IMO, he is not among the top 10 midfielders who have played for TM.

Also I would add he overstayed in TM. Was not effective in the last few years and was a giveaway machine.

Total pro on and off the field. Had a very unique style of play, to draw fouls and annoy opponents. CQ loved him, but I always found that his performances in TM compared to his club games were way different. He also always slowed the game down, which was sometimes the opposite of what we wanted.

Overall he did overstay his welcome, but he was a great leader and gave us some memorable moments. I think he played in three WCs? That’s quite the accomplishment. I’m happy he represented us well in Spain, all the efforts he put into the national team. He also strongly advocated for women to be in stadiums which I respect.

I feel like 2017 onwards completely changed his legacy. He went from one of Iran's football stars to a burden. Beyond losing pace, and skill, he started to make some very poor decisions on the pitch.
