Thanks DJ. By far one of your most useful posts this year! Appreciate the game history and yellow card numbers.

I agree that he's very yellow card happy, more than the Iran-Vietnam ref. However, he's also ref'ed some important games recently without any controversy, which bodes well.

Not to this level of detail. I think it's a useful post, in and of itself.

The amount of time spent by you guys on our referees is mind boggling.

Because we are legitimately worried since we have been f**ked over so many times by the refs in past Asian Cups, its not even funny bro.
We have been prevented from going to the AC final 2 times in the semis by ref's bad calls and many other times.
in the round of 16 and 1/4 finals , including 4 years ago when that piece of garbage Williams
red carded Pouladi on purpose so we played 75 mins with 10 men and ended up loosing to Iraq
              in penalty shootout.

              That's why

He didn’t red card Pouladi. It was his 2nd yellow of the game. Anytime anyone brings referee excuse for their lack of accomplishments, it makes their argument extremely weak. Iran has lost countless number of games in PK shootout. Perhaps this is an area that needs to be addressed, not the weak referee excuse.

1996, 2004, 2015 we were robbed by the ref and still people say thank you very much AFC and that it's our own fault. That we should win against 12 with 10 men in a game in which a the difference between 2 sides us mostly minimal.

In all those 3 yrs we lost in PKs. It had nothing to do with referees. 1996 we lost to KSA in PKs with Daei missing our first PK. In 2004 we lost to China in PK when Golmohammadi decided to chip the goalie. In 2015 we lost to to Iraq in PLs when Haghighi decided to let all 8 PKs go through. Referees had nothing to do with our failure. IT WAS OUR OWN SHORTCOMINGS.

1996 - Azizi onside goal called offside; 2 footed studs up tackle on Estili in the PK box not called as penalty
2004 - Zare given a red for a stupid push; chinese defender who tackled Karimi not given red card; not to mention many more bad calls that game.
2015 - bullshit red on Pouladi, plus most 50/50s given to Iraq.

Yes, refereeing had alot to do with it, but I wouldn't expect more from your posts.

I'm not even going to discuss 1980, 84, 88 and 92 as well since they had terrible referring too.

^^ I guess he hasn't watched those games or else he would remember the pain of beheading by the refs.

Anyway the last game I saw from Irmatov was Morocco vs Spain and he was terrible. Beheaded the poor Moroccans in that game.

Guys I know Ben Williams really screwed us badly but I give him about 65 percent of the blame for our elimination and the team 35 percent. We know that as a team, things like a red card do not really mess with our composure under CQ. Under Branko in 2004 it was an issue because a) he was not as good of a tactician, and b) on top of a red card to sattar zare, we had already been screwed by AFC before the game with the suspension of some of our defenders (including Nosrati who was suspended for the remainder of the tournament).

With queiroz, we have gotten results twice against South Korea with 10 men. First was beating South Korea 1-0 when Shojaei was given a straight red card, and keep in mind that we went down to 10 when it was still 0-0. The second was holding South Korea to a 0-0 away with an experimental lineup and 10 men. While the latter did not have as much pressure attached to it, the former had all the pressure in the world as we actually needed to win that game to qualify for the World Cup, and we were at 10 men at 0-0.

Therefore, I think our players lost it a bit mentally after that second yellow to Pouladi but we really should have just kept our defensive shape and held the 1-0 till 90 minutes like we have in many occasions.

Now I am not saying this to criticize our team because that was 4 years ago and water under the bridge, and Ben Williams deserves the majority of the blame. However, I am bringing it up to say that no matter what happens in terms of disallowed goals or unfair red cards, I know that this time around, with the mentality developed by CQ, the depth and quality of our squad, and the resolve of our players, we will do fine despite any biased refereeing and it will have a minimal effect on our matches.
