Beiro is quickly gaining legend status. His great story, his jaw dropping throws, his PK saves vs CR and now vs Oman, his great save vs. Xavi. I am really proud of him. He is an inspiration to everyone...

I don't understand the hate on Amiri. He plays a very underrated and pivotal role for our team but his role is often unnoticed and unappreciated because he doesn't score or flick the ball like Jogo Bonito. He's a perfect CQ player. He runs like a horse and does more defensively than anybody else. He was also pretty good distributing the ball today and started some quick counters with his clean touches. He will be missed in the QF.

As for Majid, it seems like he's lost his confidence, which is surprising to me. Majid was thrown into a very tough match vs Spain and played fantastic in his first TM start on his 22nd birthday. At that point, I considered him to be mentally strong and thought if he could do that vs Spain, he will be fine vs any other country (especially Asian opposition). But he seems off, both in his positioning and touches. I wonder if this started at Trabzon since he somewhat lost his starting spot, maybe it messed with his head. I wonder if CQ will stick with him or go with Kanani for the QF. Perhaps CQ wants to keep consistency in the back line, but no question Kanani has been better than Majid this tournament.

As for Taremi and Sardar, sure, they should've bagged a few goals, but make no mistake about it, their connection and chemistry is a beauty to watch. Reminds me of the Azizi-Daei connection (although they're very different type of players). Taremi and Sardar have such great cohesion that they know where the other is, or what they will do, without even looking. It's a beautiful thing, really.

Why do you say that? Why does TM need to win 'more convincingly' against Oman? Are we God's gift to football and we need to beat everyone by 4 goals? Is it because we are mighty Iran, and they are lowly Oman?

It's these unwarranted lofty expectations that feeds into to unwarranted media critique of CQ.

We beat Oman very comfortably 2-0, and we should've scored 2-3 more goals, easily. For reference, Japan beat this very same Oman 1-0 in the group stage and they scored on a very dubious PK call.

TM is playing fine football. Tournament football. We are a contender, make no mistake about it.

Guys, I'm not sure criticising JB is a knee jerk reaction at all. For me he consistently underperforms (particularly with respect to the quality of his final balls and composure on the ball) - this is both in comparison to his own league form when in Holland and the form of the players that rotate in for him.

He played well today, really physically pressured the Omani defence and he needs to keep this form up (and maybe having others performing well in his position is just the kind of incentive he needs to kick on and be more consistent) - otherwise I'd still personally advocate starting Torabi over him.

Another big psychological boost - we've now made both Oman and Vietnam look very average, physically bullying both of these technically dangerous opponents that caused huge problems for some good Asian teams.

So long as we focus this in the right way and not get complacent against China this should give us huge confidence in a potential match up with Japan/KSA in the semis

That could’ve been a rough game had they scored the pk.
Thank god for the individual brilliance of our players to secure the win.

Especially our GK. Best player on the field two games in a row now.

There was no other player that needed that goal more than JB. I am ecstatic he scored. He needed it both for TM, and for Brighton. Anybody who has played any sort of amateur football or Sunday leagues knows how a goal can give you a huge confidence boost, and we saw how much better JB played today after that goal. He is a very important player for us and we need him to be firing on all cylinders for the rest of the AC.

I hope we play Japan so that we can meet our greatest Rival in Asia! This game will show us
                    our true strength.

Why do we have 2 Post-Match threads? Isn't it wise to merge them?

                        true
he grew into the game well finally, especially after his goal..!! before that he was simply horrid ..!
probably shoulda been subbed-in , rather than starting in the last two games...!! or at least CQ shoulda gambled starting him vs Vietnam or yemen instead..!!
tbf, it wasnt fair to put him in that position by CQ...!! Knowing he is coming off a long injury layoff and very likely to be rusty..!!
now that he got his confidence boosting goal, hopefully he can now hit the ground running in the next game vs China ...! im fairly certain he will start yet again, considering our yellow card situation..!!

I just want him to finish these easy shots! You don’t get these against better teams. And none of your business how my attitude is. Grab a beer. Cheers

Wow, some of you guys rate the players as if we just won against world class opponents...

Beiranvand- 10, man has he got confidence since the world cup. Flawless performance.

Milad Mohammadi - 6,5, did his job well, nothing more or less.

PAG- 6, shaky at times but some nice interception.

Majid Hosseini- 3, awful performance. I was a big fan but he just hasnt delivered in this tournament. He could had cost us the game.

Ramin Rezaeian- 6,5, same as milmo. Prefer ramin over voria.

Omid Ebrahimi- 7, solid, but not as good going forward.

Dejagah- 8 another class, he makes things look so easy.

Jahanbakhsh- 6, not a great game but the goal saved him.

Amiri- 4, he hasnt delivered, sometimes he just runs and thats about it.

Taremi- 4, awful on that attempt where he tried to chip the goalkeeper. Gets in positions but I really want Ghoddos to start over him.

Azmoun- 5, awful finishing but he played a good passing game today. A shame that we dont have an attacker that can score such easy chances....

                              Subs

Ghoddos- good with the ball as always.

                              Cheshmi- fought hard.

                              Shojaei- too little time.

                              Overall team performance 6/10
We played Oman and we shouldnt be happy with 2-0, especially with the chances we had. The only good part in this game was the 15-20 minutes in the second half. The rest could be better. We cant afford the defensive blunders from today vs better opponents.

Not really. Vietnam's last competitive game against Jordan was a 1-1 draw for ACQ. They've been climbing up the fifa rankings, narrowly lost the U23 championship final last year, were 4th place in the Asian Games last year.

Teams which are on the ascendancy are always worrying for other countries. I thought Vietnam could easily beat Jordan.
