I do not try to rate the players individually today, but as a team, they moved good today. We played some phases good football and defend and move good as a team, and what was important today, that we made Oman tired. They could not deliver anymore, specially after we scored the first, and than the second, they had to open, run more, and run behind the ball often...this was very good for us.
I think Beiranvand, Dejagah and Ebrahimi made a (very) good match, and specially Hosseini and PAG have to be more focused. sometimes we have difficulties not only in defending, but also to clear the ball or pass it or shot it good to the front....for example, our first goal was not a tactical goal, it was shot (!) from the back to the front, because of pressure on our defender, it was "focused clearing by kickin the ball to the front" and actually it was offside by jahanbakhsh, we were lucky that probably the linesman did not see it, or did not count it as a "direct pass" and rate the omani defender having enough time to clear or take the ball and that jahanbakhsh "press" after this new action...but me personally rate this as offside...and our second goal was not a very clear penalty. you can give this, but i would not give it (as a neutral referee). We were lucky, that the mexican referee gave the penalty for oman and warned some actions before the penalty (specially the defender which "fouled" Taremi) and after this warnings, and the penalty in the first minute, he gave this penalty (my interpretation)..
All in all we played okay/good football today, controlled the game and won because beiravand pushed the team to better football after clearing the penalty.World Cup 2006, Frankfurt, Iran vs. Portugal, Iranian Frontpage of GOAL Sportspaper

And on the 8.Day God created Ali Karimi, and he saw he was good!

I’m starting to see Carlos’ hesitation in starting Mohammadi his ball control and passing are very weak, always rushes the attack but is solid at defending. He’s the reverse of Hajsafi. I think we’ll see Hajsafi at LB again :/.
Overall we shut down oman and dominated the match although we didn’t play a superbly at all.
MVP: one again Dejagah Carries the team, and scored a penalty calmly when we needed it. Beiranvand’s save is unbelievable he has continued to improve and is calm and dominating.
Negatives: Hosseini is playing terribly and Pouraliganji is below his average as well. Pouraliganji does a lot better paired with Montazeri, wouldn’t be surprised however to see Kanani play alongside him again. Amiri with a unnecessary yellow but either way I think he needed to be rested for a game. Maybe we can see hajsafi in his position or torabi.
Positives: Jahanbaksh badly needed that goal, first half I think 65% of our attack came from the right side, he connected well with Ramin and Ashkan, nice dribbles, speed, and a hard fought goal.
Overall: 4 games, 9 goals scored, zero conceded, we are attacking well, and barely giving away chances. We have a solid bench with Ghoddos and Torabi, ans Masoud as a sub for Ashkan. Azmoun needs to remain calm, taremi will give him the ball.
China shouldn’t give us any problems, I except to see 3-4 changes for that match. Go Team Melli.--------------------------Beiranvand-------------------

You have to accept we do not have Ronaldo and Messi up front.
If they could finish their shots, we would be a top 10 team.
Hopefully they improve as we go further.
I don't drink beer, maybe a shot of scotch.

Better performance than last match against Iraq, some nice build up plays happened in the midfield. I keep my opinion on this TM lacking strong talents like the past, the only exception is our glorious keeper Beiranvand who deserves to be playing in top leagues as he is world class. The only other player who has special traits is Dejagah but his fitness as always not the best in competitive matches as he lacks stamina and speed to chase back balls and in defensive positions. Players such as Nekonam, Ali Karimi and young Shojaei is truly being missed in the midfield as we seriously need the creativity against Japan, South Korea and other on form teams in the next stages.
To have too much expectation from our current TM is not a realistic point of view since most players are average in worldly scale, but still better than most Asian sides. But Asian football is not role model to thrive for. I hope we win all games and will be sitting tensely on my seat in every game to come. Match against China will be very close and tense. But we will win, Go TM!!!

Thank god for the individual brilliance of our players to secure the win.
Especially our GK. Best player on the field two games in a row now..... At the end I am nothing other than ordinary

ARJ was fantastic, his runs and hustling as well as his great crosses and indeed his goal was so fun and refreshing to watch.
Taremi and Azmoun wasted collectively 4-5 sitters, otherwise this match should have ended with an easy 4-5 goal margin.
All in all a very good day and game for TM. We dominated and won deservedly. Let’s focus on China game, our 2004 semi final clash against them and the unfair referee calls against us costing TM the game and the final birth never gets wiped out of the heads of those of us who watched the game live and stressed and cried of unfairness. I look forward to meeting them in the quarterfinal and punishing them hard.

Now is the time for revenge. not in a world cup qualification or whatever match. Revenge always there, where you was defeated. Now it is really time for revenge, the fouls on Karimi, the missed red cards for their defenders, NOW is the time for revenge and i hope our players know this and will be remembered by that match in 2004 where we were the best team, but avoided the final...

IRAN - OMAN: POST MATCH THREAD
Great teams need three types of key players who help them win games when things don’t go according to plan:
The first is the type that can bail out the team when a mistake is made at the back line. We have a phenomenal goalie with a ton of confidence who bailed us out in the first minute of the game by saving a well placed penalty kick.
The second is the type of player that can make something out of nothing and score goals when the team is under pressure. Alireza Jahanbakhsh (although rusty and maybe not yet fully fit to run for 90 minutes) really changed the psyche of the team and calmed nerves with his goal.
The third is the type of player who can provide stability to the team by positioning well, holding onto the ball when appropriate and distributing to our attacking players in dangerous areas. Ashkan Dejagah (who is also not yet fit to run for 90 minutes) was that central hub that we really needed to create chances and put Iran in position to score goals.

Japan, Saudi Arabia, Australia and/or South Korea will not be so tame as the Omanis were.

Azmoun needs to work on his aim and composure. He missed too many chances too close to the goal.
Seeing his nervousness,I am not sure that today, he would even score on penalty.
At least taremi's shots where closer to target or on target. Azmoun's were way off.Last edited by leviathan; 01-20-2019, 04:40 PM.

We created more scoring chances on Spain and Portugal's goals than what Oman created on our goal. Let’s not get too carried away with our emotions please
