Majid has had a couple of bad games by his own standard but he is still the best CB we have alongside PAG.

I’ve watched every single game majid has played for Trabzonspor and team melli this season and with the exception of a couple games he has been outstanding.

Keep in mind that majid is still relatively new to team melli and doesn’t have many caps.

When PAG had fewer caps he too was more reckless and inconsistent, like PAG, majid will mature with time.

Also, besides the penalty scene he really didn’t play bad at all, but people here are emotional and don’t objectively analyze things.

Towards the end of the game he sloppily fouled near the 18 yard box and gave a dangerous opportunity to Oman. He was lucky he did not pickup his second yellow card then.

It doesn't make sense to include someone who is not in his future plans. I'm sure he picked the players while having his mind set on leading them to the next WC. Better then to use younger defenders to get international experience for the WC.

That foul wasn’t a yellow card worthy foul.

Other players gave away much worse fouls throughout the whole game.

His future plan on this matter is not a good one. Majid already gave a penalty and few other blunder against Yeman. Kanaani had mistakes too when we played Vietnam.
If Biranvand didn't save the penalty and Iran lost to Oman then what? Every body would say he should have included Jalal

All of our CB's have had their shaky moments so far in this tournament, even PAG. I think the key reason for that is Ezatolahi's absence. He's part of the backbone of the team. That being said, I'm confident in any of our CB's against China. However, I'd probably start Pejman or Kanaani against China to have Hosseini in the semis.

so far, he has been struggling by en large in this tournament ..! by the same token Kanani has proven to be a much more reliable CB alternative so far and most probably will partner PAG vs China, in for nothing else, due to Hossaini's yellow card situation..!! If Kanani perform admirably yet again then i fear for Majid's chances of return to becoming a first choice CB option, going further into this tourney..!!

He just doesnt look as sharp as before and has struggled with the pace of competitive play since his little injury layoff at club...!!
also the new, More Offensive game approaches by CQ in TM in the run up and during AC has made more evident his Defensive Vulnerabilities and Temperament and beginning to expose his still yet, sever lack of International Experience ..!! (highlighted especially in the Red card worthy yemen challenge and falling sleep on the PK give-away last match, not to mention other defensive lapses and silly fouls near our box late in the game..! )
During the WC TM Played largely with 10 man behind the ball in our half of the pitch and obviously it was easier to stand out as a defender with so much defensive support around you, in the current somewhat balanced and more Front Pressing team play, there is a huge gap in our half of the pitch to marshal and cover defensively, making it more challenging for our CBs to come across as formidable and world-beaters as they did in Russia..!

In the WC, we wont be playing this way. We will play all defensively, parking the bus again. That's how all those defenders, including Majid will shine. Just like in the previous WC. Seyed Jalal will not play the next WC! He'll be too old. Better look to the future. Not to the past.

That and/or our tactics have changed from all defensive to dominating/attacking style. That's how defenders can get more susceptible too.

With the right coaching behind him he can be one of our best...he still is shaky at times but he is definitely great to watch

I think the only players that are locks as first squad are Ezzatollahi, Azmoun, PAG, Beiranvand. Other than that, you can rotate around players.

Yes it was. If the Omani had passed him he could have been one on one with Beiravand. He was very Solid against Spain and Portugal but so far he is simply performing quite shaky in this tournament.

Majid Hosseini did excellent against Spain & Portugal. That in itself makes him more than Team Melli material. He's in a bit of a slump right now, and I'm sure he'll break out of it. Don't forget he gave the pass to Jahanbakhsh that led to him scoring (though it was his hustling, some credit should still be given to Majid).

We should break from the knee-jerk reaction of discounting a player once they're in a slump. If CQ had the same mentality, it would stunt all of the growth and development our players have had the past 7 yrs. Let's have more faith.
