Exactly. Our main advantage compared to this era was off the field in terms of professionalism and competence. On the field we've never had a team as good as this. The seventies generation was great, but we tend to overlook some major factors that made their dominance possible.

As you mentioned, Japan and South Korea didn't even have professional leagues at the time and Saudis had just started a football program.

Burma and India were strong in the sixties but by the seventies they had fallen off.

Two out of those three Asian Cup victories were AT HOME.

Our strongest rivals in that golden era were South Korea, North Korea and Kuwait (Australia too for WC qualifiers), and while we dominated, the matches were a lot closer than we tend to remember. Look at the 1978 WC team considered by some to be our greatest ever. In the qualifiers the only country we beat by more than one goal was Hong Kong. Against Australia and Kuwait it was 1-0 victories and we only managed to draw South Korea home and away. Compare our 2-2 tie against them in Tehran in 1977 to our win against them in Tehran in 2016 where they barely managed to get a shot on goal.

There is definitely a lot to be proud of in that era, but we can't overlook the fact that our dominance was produced as much by our advantages in professionalism, organization and preparation OFF THE FIELD as it was by our superior talent on the field. Today our only advantage is in talent and coaching while our organization and preparation is similar to a 2nd division club in Japan, South Korea, Australia, Qatar, Saudi or UAE. It's when you take all this into account that you truly appreciate what CQ has built. I honestly don't know how our 1970s generation would have done if the federation at the time was as pathetic as it is today.

Not at all is it differentiates it from World Cups in which qualifying for them is a breeze.

Because I'm old enough to remember when the Asian Games were as important as the Asian Championship. Before 2002 where it switched to U23 rosters the Asian Games champion was the Asian champion.

All three goals started from the back:

1- PAG sent in the long ball that Sardar stole from the Chinese defender who mishandled the ball and passed it to the middle for Taremi to tap in

2- Kanaanizadegan sent in the long ball that ARJ tried to head in Sardar's direction and then Sardar manhandled the Chinese defender (football is a contact sport, it wasn't a foul) and dribbled around the goalie and scored

3- Milad sent in the long ball that Chinese defender mishandled and Taremi passed it to Karim who ran away with it and his second touch put in the back of the net

Conclusion: CQ and his cadre knew that Chinese defense is error prone on long bouncing balls and fully took advantage of their weakness with speed and skill of our boys and their flawless execution

That is true. It seems like CQ and his coaching staff knew the Chinese defense is shaky and error prone. The number of hopeful balls sent behind Chinese defensive lines was not accidental.
