In 2002 the Asian Games champion was the U23 Asian champion. Realistically we didn't earn the right to play that match with New Zealand.
I went to Sharif University. I'm a superior genetic mutation, an improvement on the existing mediocre stock.

No matter how hard or easy it is or was to qualify for the World Cup, the way you put it was silly. It's like me saying you are my favorite KC McElroy, when I know only one.

If you knew more KC McElroy's it would make sense. I know of World Cups where the number of teams wasn't 16.

In terms of glory and individual talent yes, in terms of team work and tactics no.

I grew up in the 70s and adored that team and players.

Your analogy is misleading. Me saying you are my favorite KC McElroy, when there is only one I know is analogous to Iran making it to the last sixteen, when there are only sixteen teams. That is the right analogy here, not the comparison between world cups with different numbers of entrants.

Huh? That's a mouthful even for you.

                Sorry for the side question:

Sub Iran for Japan in final 16 2018 WC. I feel Iran would have faired better against any 3 of those final 16 teams than Iran did in 78 (God bless that TM). Of course no way of of proving this, but would you agree?

I beg to disagree in world cup 78 we Tied Scotland with an own goal from the Scott player. lost pretty soundly to Holland and got owned by Peru, or vice versa can't remember anymore. in the 2018 WC we Tied Portugal, Won Morocco and barely lost to Spain all 3 better than Holland, Peru and Scotland. Now don't forget the Asian Cup in 1968 was held in Tehran there were only 5 teams, 1972 in Thailand only 6 teams. 1978 again in Tehran with 6 teams. You can't compare those championships with these later ones. All that said, those were great teams but comparing apples to apples we have never had a better team than this one.

That's not accurate. The Iranians (I think it was Eskandarian) scored a goal on themselves. Iran equalized in the second half (I think it was Danaifard). Not arguing with your overall point though. This is the best TEAM Iran has ever had, but probably not the most individually talented.

It would depend on the draw. For some of them yes some of them no.

Not better at all. Morocco was only in the World Cup due to an expanded field. Holland of the 70s was perhaps one of the greatest teams ever assembled. Peru was the reigning South American champion.

There were only 5 teams in 1968 meaning there were no crap teams to get easy wins against but only the top teams of the continent had qualified.

That was a long time ago I was just a young guy. Like I said I couldn't remember all the details But what i do remember was somebody scored an own goal.
However I totally agree with you "not individually most talented".

No, it's not. It's logically faulty. I expected better from you.
