    Iraqis are blasting Qatar for using an Iraqi-Qatari football player.

    Iraqi football federation has complained to FIFA about Qatar. Qatari football player Basam Rawi scored a goal agaist Iraq. It turns out his father was a former Iraqi football player and Iraqis are mad. Iraqis think Qatar breached a FIFA rule and hope to get back to competition. It reminds me of 2015 false hopes.

            I don't like Qatar's strategy but Iraq's appeal is irrational.

                I don't get it, we all know his dad played for Iraq, but the kid chose Qatar, is Qatari citizen. I don't like it either, but how is this a violation?

                    All right I found reasonable argument from Iraqi side per Scott McIntyre on twitter, the Iraqis got a valid point, we need to stop this act by some countries of just buying players (you got clubs for that). Doubt AFC will do anything;

                    I’m hearing that there are question marks over the eligibility of several Qatari players, including Almoez Ali and Bassam Al-Rawi. Both were born outside the nation and fail to meet the five-year residency requirements (as they are not 23 years old as required by FIFA rules).

                    Additionally, I’m told there are questions over the veracity of their links to the nation through family lines. Under FIFA rules one of their parents or grandparents must have been born in Qatar for them to be eligible, being unable to meet the 5 year residency rule.

                          This guy, Bassam, played at the Qatari youth level as well and has lived there since he was like 7.

                          Move on Iraq. You have no argument.

                            I think this desperate move is more for their fans at home. "We just lost against a team we should have beaten, but we're doing our best to correct this unjust move against us :-)"
