See this first. Qatar or Iraq doesn't have a difference for me. I am neutral toward both teams. Some Iraqis think otherwise.

Yunnis Mahmoud said, Iran is scared of only one team in this Asian Cup and that team is Iraq! This is a popular Arab sport program hosted by Qataris and have their Karshenash from other countries. Leis Nobari former Iranian player is also one of their Karshenas for AC 2019. Leis is Iranian Arab.

This reminds me of our own issue from AC 2015. after we lost there were some issue regarding an ineligible player by Iraq on cards or something. But at the end nothing came out of it!!

              Justice has been served!!
              IRI = FAILED

Reading their comments on this video and on social media platforms like Twitter etc. you will see Iraqis really hate Iran. 🐍

"Iran fear Iraq" Younis Mahmood is an overrated hack, who outside the Asian Cup 2007 fluke title didn't achieve anything in his footballing life.

                Screw them.

Younis Mahmood: Iran is afraid of a single team in the Asian Cup, the Iraqi national team

Most delusional fans in the world. Habibi, go back and finish last in your World Cup qualifying groups as usual. You lost in the Round of 16 in the Asian Cup - STFU.

I think it was one of their players who had been caught doping while playing for an Iranian team prior to the cup

Iran has very strong civilization links with Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan. We should not let an 8 year war cloud our memory. Iran and Iraq have been part of the same political entity for 2000 years!

I like Iraq and Iraqis, so I was rooting for our neighbours against Qatar! Online communities of Iraqis and Iranians are not a true representation of either of these countries!

I also like Iraqis. They lost to a very good Qatari side.
.... At the end I am nothing other than ordinary

I think these things are natural. In every country people want to feel good about who they are and say these things. Iraq lost to Qatar because they have an Iraqi player. haha. There are rumors that Qatar is hiring a player from Israel
to play against Iran . That is to stop us from playing Qatar!

                            A appreciate your attitude!
The civilization links that we had with Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan are different to our link with Iraq (Mesopotamia).
Our relation with Mesopotamia starts right after the Conquests of Kuroshe Bozorg. Of course during the Achemenid Empire Babylonian Architecture, Art, Clothing and many more things influenced Achemenids. This relation with Mesopotamia hold ( if we skip Alexanders conquest which didn't last too long) until the arab conquest of Sassanian Empire.
From that point Islam was the man identification of most of these middle eastern people, big civilizations like Egypt, Syria and also Mesopotamia (Iraq) lost their ancient identity. Same could happen to Iran if it wasn't for the strong Nationalism of Dehqans like Ferdouwsi or Daqiqi. Thats being said, up to this day the main link between Iraq and Iran is Shia-Islam which many Iranians doesn't consider to be their main Religion/Identification. Also many Arabs starts getting away from Islam so if that foundation skips away, there is nothing that connect Iranian people with Iraqis (not counting the kurds who are iranic by language/Ethnicity). Not to mention the tensions between Sunni Iraqs and they hatred toward Shia and Iran. ( which had its climax in Saddam and we would suffer from this Ideology again if we were weak state, since the main enemy of ISIS is I.R.)
Our connection with Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Azerbaijan has much deeper roots. Tajiks, Pashtus and Azaris are iranian people today and this area was iranic from ancient times, since Bactrians, Sogdians, Medes, Saka etc. lived in this regions. Speciallt Tajiks put an strong emphasis on Shahname and used it also as an Identification for themselves.
The fact that we have a common iranic heritage and linguistic connections with these people put them closer to us ( i assume that one didn't make the equotation Being Iranian= Being Shia).

I can observe how many middle easterners move away from Islam and once they fulfill this the debate for Culture, Identity and Nationalism will rise up.

Moreover we are speaking about football and its generally speaking strange if a much weaker side (in footballing terms) ignores this fact and act if they would be on par or even the better side.

Why would their fans love us? or for that matter even not hate us? put yourself in their place, would you love the Iraqis if the circumstances where reversed?
