Someone indicated here that China is participating in Copa America 2019 and I looked it up and its actually Japan and Qatar which are invited guests to take place. Imagine Iran was invited to go there!! What a feat that would be. Now since the winner of Asian Cup will get a ticket to confederations cup 2019 and Japan already has this Copa America booked this summer its best we crush them and then win the title. Just imagine having the luxury of playing in confederation cup. Look at how far Japan has come.

EDIT: Read that South Korea has done it too? Iranian commentator however said we're first.
Beiro is the first keeper to have 5 clean sheets in a tournament. However SK did have 5 clean sheets in a row in 2015, its just that in their second group game they used a different keeper.

Dude why do you keep posting this?

Because he hustles and gets into spaces very well, and his partnership with Azmoun has been absolutely amazing - they understand each other. See how many of our chances are generated by the interplays between them, either with the ball or without it (stretching defenders, creating spaces).

His finishing is often poor, but the good things he gives have provided more dividends than the negatives.

Taremi and Azmoun together are better than the some of their parts. Most people here would start Taremi just to get the best out of Azmoun.

Most of what needed to be covered has been covered so I'll just make a few quick points:

          1. MOTM was undoubtedly Azmoun. If we're to be champions, we need to see this type of grit, athleticism, and clinical finishing from him in the next match and (hopefully) in the Final.

          2. Taremi did his job and he comes with a lot of positive attributes but he MUST become more clinical in finishing his opportunities. It's easier to let his slip-ups slide when we are leading but there will be games where his golden opportunity may be the difference between winning and losing. Regardless, there'll be no Taremi in the next match so we'll just have to look to alternatives.

          3. Hajsafi is best as a CDM or LM and we saw that again today. He's good enough defensively to provide cover for the LB & CBs and good enough offensively to help build the attacking play to our forward line. I believe there is a chance that we'll see him back in the LB position in the next match but I honestly feel like this is the perfect position for him.

          4. A special shout-out to Rezaeian as well. He defended incredibly well (especially in handling China's chance in minute 5/6) and made sure not to tackle anyone recklessly and incur a 2nd yellow card. He will definitely be a member of the starting XI when we take on Japan on Monday.

          5. When it comes to the CBs, I'm still not sure whether or not Kanani is going to remain Pouraliganji's fixed partner in the next match. Like many others, I was surprised by Kanani's inclusion and even then, thought he was going to be a token 'add-on' player (similar to Nourollahi). Not only has he started several matches, he's performed incredibly well. That said, while Kanani is a physical and imposing force, he can be relatively slow (something that was exposed in his CB partnership with Cheshmi in the U23 Asian Cup a few years ago). I personally think that Hosseini reads the game better and is faster than Kanani; attributes that I think are more suited for defending against a team like Japan. Either way, we'll just have to see who starts next week.

Look ahead, based on the existing matches, I can say that this is how both sides will definitely line-up:

          Japan:

          -----------------Gonda------------------
          Sakai--Tomiyasu--Yoshida--Nagatomo
          --------Shibasaki----Haraguchi--------
          Doan------------------------------?????
          ------Minamino---------?????----------

The above 9 players have all started in 4 of Japan's 5 games. The only game they sat was the final group stage match against Uzbekistan. I'm certain that Muto (who was out today on 2 yellow cards) will start next to Minamino but I don't know who the other 'unknown' starter will be.

          Iran:

          -------------------Beiranvand------------------
          Rezaeian--Pouraliganji--CB-----------------LB
          --------Ebrahimi--------------CDM-------------
          Jahanbakhsh------Dejagah-----------------LM
          --------------------Azmoun---------------------

          * The CB will be a toss-up between Hosseini and Kanani

          * The LB will be a toss-up between Hajsafi and Mohammadi, in which case there will be two scenarios. In scenario 1, where Mohammadi is the LB, Hajsafi will be the CDM, and either Amiri, Ghoddos, or Torabi will be in the LM position. In scenario 2, where Hajsafi is the LB, Amiri will be the CDM (playing an Ando-type role) and either Torabi or Ghoddos will be in the LM position.

Obviously, all of the above is speculation based on the trends that I've seen in both teams over the first 5 matches but assuming the trends hold, then CQ has a lot more 'unknown' variables to play than Moriyasu as far as line-up is concerned.

Impressive match in every department, as a long time TM fan, even if the opponent wasn't as strong as Korea but somehow i enjoyed this one more than 6-2 and 4-3 vs Korea, because in this math we dictated the temp from the first minute up to the last one. What an amazing performance.

Everyone except JB played a hell of game. Obviously Sardar, Ashkan, Taremi, and what a game by Kanani. People criticized Queiroz about why this guy was constantly getting the call while he was injured and was rejected by Sorkhabi's, so i guess we all learned that never doubt about ''The Master'''s decisions.

Now the real test start, Japan is obviously few classes above China, but we imposed our rhythm in this match and beghole marouf zahre cheshm gereftim az bagheye roghaba...

Now with Taremi's absence(which can be huge, because usually the strikers are not generous to each others but it is not the case with Sardar and Taremi, both have good chemistry and are good friends off the field as well), i like to see this line up:

            Beiro
            Ramin-PAG-Kanani-Milad
            Omid-Hajsafi
            Karim-Dejagah-Amiri
            Azmoun

Karim instead of JB and Amiri instead of Taremi. We will be still dangerous on counter with the speed of Amiri and Karim.

              JB-Dejagah-Ghoddos
              Azmoun

Everyone has spoken beautifully about the game.

                  Beiranvand - 7 - wasn't really challenged
Rezaeian - 8 - great save on the line, but I also feel he kept the Chinese forward onside in that same opportunity
PAG - 8- won alot of balls in the air and got hit in the head alot. The PAG we all know and love.
Kanaani - 7.5 - slowly he has been impressing me. Almost had a great assist too.
Mohammadi - 7.5 - great speed, great hustle, wins the ball so often. If he gets better at crossing he will be the full package.
Ebrahimi - 7.5 - great physical play as always and distributed beautifully.
Hajisafi, - 7.5 - So much better as a DM. His last great game for TM was agaisnt SOuth Korea in Tehran, where he was also a DM. He can't play LB.
JB - 6 - he needs his touch back. Still hustled hard though.
Dejagah - 8 - Games like this today remind us of how unlucky we have been with his injuries. He is truly an exceptional player and could easily play in a top European club if he just had the fitness. Calm, composed and a fighter. Plays modern football to a tee.
Taremi - 7 Great hustle, great passes, great wins, manhandled his opponents and scared the Chinese. Would have a 10/10 if he had finished the point blank goal.
Azmoun - 9/10 - Beautiful physical pressing play that most Asian teams are not used to. That's how you make a goal out of nothing.

                  Subs:
                  Ansarifard - 7.5 - classy finish
                  Cheshmhi - N/A - wasn't' asked to do much.
Ghodoos - 7.5 - great touch and is basically a slightly less clinical version of Dejagah. He'll eventually hit his stride for TM.

I think Taremi's unfortunate yellow will take away some options, but I believe Amiri will take his place.
What impressed me the most today as Iran_19 said is that we imposed our will on the game and dictated the pace. We played in a way that no ref, dirty play, or tricks could knock us back.
We will have to do the same versus Japan. Obviously they will be a much tougher task. Onto our next final.
                  Zendebaad Iran!

He basically made one statement and didn't take any questions. He was not happy.

There is one small upside in Taremi picking up the yellow card. Say we beat Japan, he will be really rested for the final.

Haha so true! I noticed this during the group stages, and you're right, it's continued into the semi-final!

I wonder though, would Korea or Australia be any more difficult than Japan? It's tough to tell, because they've mostly all scraped by so far!

Every area of the game has been covered by all the posts but one area I want to point out is the analysis of China which determined a game plan to throw the ball long test their central defenders. That was no accident, it was the game plan. Azmoun & Taremi were instructed to hustle upfront and put the defenders under pressure. It worked like a dream. Full 10 points to the TM analysts & TM management. lippy noticed it and changed his layers to counter that in the 1st half but to no avail. In the 2nd half TM slowed the game down, perfect game management. Except for Taremi’s yellow card it was a perfectly executed win.

Rest assured they will have a specific game plan for japan. Hopefully the boys execute it as well as they did it in this game.

                            Do doorodo IRAN!

Taremi is MUST to this team. Yes his finishing is bad, but man, this guy work his a$$ of every minute, put constant pressure on the defender and wingers, and he is the master of getting a penalty kick, one should be naive to think Taremi's presence in starting line-up is not base on his performance. He is probably one of top 3-4 TM players in level of efficiency.
Plus most of the time he creates his own chances....
