Looking at the goals again - some bitter truth

Just rewatched both scenes. Very untypical for us.

    1-0

Rezaeian is in possession in the own half. The Japanese are closing down the space around him well with 4 men. His pass finds Jahanbakhsh, who under pressure tries to play a 1-2 with Rezaeian, but due to the numerical advantage and the poor precision of the pass under pressure, Japan's no 7 gets the ball.

And now the strange thing is, Dejagah, Hajsafi and Ebrahimi neither challenge the player in possession at all, nor close down the space between the backline and the too high standing midfield at all for the next seconds, while Minamino sprints exactly there. Osako quickly drops back, lays the ball back to Minamino one-touch, who sprints forward dangerously completely left alone by our midfielders.

Kanaani comes our of an almost sweeper position to avoid the complete breakthrough...well, you know the rest.

Actually this chance should have never happened, had we aggressively fought for the ball and covered Minamino.

    2-0

Second goal came from a somewhat poorly picked pass from Pouraliganji to Rezaeian, who barely had any good options, but picked the worst, going for a risky square pass with the outside of his foot, which is taken by the Japanese deep inside Iran's half, and then we were just reacting to quick and precise passing in our danger area.

Both goals came thanks to great pressing from Japan, forced turnovers and quick transition from defense to offense, which we failed to cope with appropriately.

    Deservingly beaten, I'm afraid.

Actually when you slow the footage down you see Branko run into the field and blow a whistle causing confusion among the Iranian players which led to them stop and beg the ref to overturn the call.

No joke I wanna know if there was a second whistle by someone in the stands. I can think of no other explanation for the entire defense to forget the game and run to the ref.

There definitely were sounds of whistles at every challenge today, I was at the game and even I thought I heard a whistle during that challenge. However, these are typical at big crowds/stadiums, this team should be used to playing at Azadi! Some external noise shouldn't make them lose concentration, it was so amateurish.

TM turned into an amateur team AFTER 100 games with CQ in charge!!! Who's fault is this?!!!! This is why we Iranians have run of success and all of a sudden we lose ourselves to the glory and adulation( clean sheet after 5 games) Best offense ( 12 scored) and the most amazing coach ( CQ)!!!! The Japanese saved the best for last , they turned into a ruthless machine with every passing miniute, clinical, no emotions, even thier coach showed little emotions after every goal!! WOW!!!

I'm guessing your footage has nothing to do with your beginning comment.

I thought I was being biased, but the article from Goal made me realize maybe someone who is neutral also saw it the same way saying "although Carlos Queiroz's men had their chances, refereeing decisions did not go their way and Japan ultimately cruised."

It was a pretty terrible match from TM's perspective. They severely underestimated Japan and tried to bulldoze their way to the final while the Japanese had a plan, especially for defense. The goals were really unfortunate though...

Looking at that footage again they all turn to the ref suddenly and in unison, which would seem to suggest they heard a whistle.

What was more inexcusable was our reaction to going a goal down - no discipline, no leadership, no belief
